New Premier Qualification Requirements for 2020: Only Spend or Spend + Flight Sectors

Looks like PQP in place of PQD and PQF in place of revised PQS, and PQM no longer be a requirement.

Premier 1K = 54 PQF and 18,000 PQP or 24,000 PQP only !!

Significantly Higher Spend and Segment Requirements for 2020 Qualification

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fvlN-m...ature=youtu.be

This is huge. Requirements going up across the board, but you can make it on spend only...

1K = Flat $24K spend , or 54 flown segments + $18,000
Plat = Flat $15K spend, or 36 segments + $12,000
Gold = Flat $10K spend, or 24 segments +$10,000
Silver= Flat $5K spend, or 12 segments + $4000

Distance no longer means anything!

It does appear fees and upgrades count towards your spend...And no fare class bonus for segments. That’s 54 butt in seat segments for 1K.

Yikes...Scary times many of us will see ahead!

Interesting that they allows flights and spend ticketed (and operated) on partner carriers to count towards PQP...

Game over for foreign based MP members. Changes on a Friday are always bad.

This will cut 1K population by half.

For international flyers, 54 PQF is very tough to get. So 18000 PQP isn't enough.

Basically you need to spend $24000 base fares to make 1K.

Interesting perverse incentive here--PQP for paying for E+, but UA G and higher don't pay for E+...making it harder for existing loyal customers to earn loyalty tiers.

So the short answer is "Yes for 1K?"

However, there is no value added for being 1K...

For example, if you earned 360 award miles for your flight, you’ll receive 72 PQP if you flew with a preferred partner, and 60 PQP if you flew with a MileagePlus partner.

You’ll earn PQF on partner airlines as well, except when flying on light fares, basic fares, and award tickets.

T
There are some cheap Y fares on other airlines that earn 0 on UA (light, basic, discounted fares)

Mileage, or distance flown, will no longer factor into qualification for Premier status. However, our Million Miler program, which awards lifetime status to our longest-tenured fliers, is still based on lifetime miles flown.

Are you trying to reduce the number of members in the Premier program?

We expect the total Premier population to grow based on these changes, as we want the program to recognize all of our loyal members. The new program will benefit many members who are limited by the current requirements, such as those who spend more on domestic travel but aren’t meeting the distance or high segment requirements. While Premier status will be accessible to more members overall, members will have to do more to reach 1K status, which will help us preserve the value of the benefits members earn at that level

There better be something good of value in there for legacy Platinum/Signature Visa cardholders that got 5000 PQMs from ticket purchases and another 5000 at hitting $30K in spend. Since no more PQMs, how does this work now?

Color me scared, after 15 years of non-stop 1K, this might be winding down for me. Huge benefit for segment flyers, but not for those that hit long-haul 2-3 times a year, even if they’re on mid-range $5000 tickets. That’s a lot of segments or another $9-$10K in spending.

This is posted on MileagePlus updates website: https://mileageplusupdates.com/milea...qualification/

And I completely agree - this is bogus for high level elites. We don't pay for the extras that now count towards PQP. So 1Ks will need to shell out $18K (with 54 "flights") or $24K without. BTW, $24K is double what the 1K spend used to be until this year.

There better be some really awesome perks coming for 1K and they are hopefully announced soon or I'll very quickly decide not to even try to attain that status any longer. At least I have *G locked up through 1MM.

Looks like I was a minute late to the party. Mods, please merge.

The end...

The change in incremental plus points also seems rough. An additional 20 per 3000PQP strikes me as much stingier. (Not that it’ll effect me, this will mark the end of my days as a 1K)

dinoscool3 Oct 11, 2019 12:11 am

Bye bye United.

Blocking out all the spin talk in the video, this seems more like a funeral.
