ORD-OGG sold out in F on Saturday 14 Dec 2019?
Hi all, looking to fly UA 202 ORD-OGG in F on 12/14 and the front cabin is all zeroed out. One seat open 12/7 and all zeroed out again on 12/28. Any chance inventory is being held and will open up as the date nears or should I consider other options? Thanks for your help.

How many seats do you need? The odds of one ticket popping up now or then are not that bad - plans change. However, you probably need to be willing to pay full fare.

Agreed - and in fact, you'll find sold out cabins to/from West Coast to HNL this month, as capacity is tightened this month in the shoulder season. It would not surprise me to find a 777 cabin fully booked out of a cold-weather place like ORD to OGG 11 days before Christmas.

Held for what?
No reason to do that, instead you zero out discount fares. So while a seat is available it is at a steep price.
Does travel have to be weekend to weekend when everyone else is traveling? Midweek travel will still be difficult but earlier / cheaper than weekends

Thanks for the replies. That's what I feared. Well good news is that I'll just book economy with miles and save a bunch of $.... (or consider another routing/airline, I suppose)

Not quite: also flies some weekdays including Thu 12/19 (but full in F).
Appears to also fly 12/23, 12/24, 12/25, all of which have (expensive) room in F.
Also 12/30 and 12/31. NYE is even less than $1k!
Edit: oh I see, it's Saturday only for Nov/Dec but then flies every day Dec 19th through Jan 12, then Th/Fr/Sa/Sun through mid-May. F is full some days but not others.

You might want to avoid the non-stop in coach. At 10-across, ORD-Hawaii are the most uncomfortable domestic mainline routes. I’d do stopovers on west coast just to avoid that plane in economy for that length of time. That’s just me, though...

"Usually..." maybe. But when only F is sold out, and the flight is mid-December, from Chicago to Hawaii... I'm thinking they probably sold each seat individually / in family-sized groups, and likely for a significant sum.

Ahhhh, I remember about 7-8 years ago, booking OGG-ORD in saver F, returning home just before Christmas. The day before the flight, F was only about 1/4 full. I refunded the tix, booked them in saver Y, and wife and I both CPU’d into F within an hour or two of booking. (Also back when it was a CPU-able route).

Absolutely. You'll see the same on DL's MSP-HNL and SLC-HNL flights. During the winter, they sell out in F months in advance.

this year LAX-OGG on 12/14 is typical 199 coach 600 first but it gradually increases to 500 coach and 1500 first on 12/21...
