new united service DEN-HOB

Interesting new destination. Apparently there's an economic boom down there.

Interesting that it's DEN. For facilitating YYC connections? My crude (haha ) understanding of the oil industry would have made me think IAH-HOB would have been more likely than DEN. I guess IAH is more things than oil nowadays.

Thank god for this. I have been flying into El Paso and Albuquerque and driving over for years, or if the weather is bad at DIA just driving from my house! Two changes that I like in one day! Keep it up United.

It would help if folks include city/state and not just airport code in the OP. Hobbs New Mexico? Lea County Regional?

Those of us who used lifemiles in its early days will remember HOB fondly

Well, I was doing DEN-MAF twice a month for a number of years, and finally got fed up with the Devil's Chariot (which is also the equipment to/from HOB). I started driving or flying FC on AA for the same price (around $650-$750 return). Looks like the DEN-HOB nonstop run is priced a bit more reasonably (~$450+/-). We'll see if that lasts.

My first impression: Why is United flying to Hobart, Tasmania?

Second impression: Do they have the range to fly to Tasmania from Denver?

Third impression: Oh... wait a minute...
----
(And for the record - Yes. 8770 miles puts it just inside the range for a Dreamliner... although taking off at altitude may have an impact on that.)

Oh, come on. Everybody knows that the code for Hobart is HBA.

For about 0.5 seconds I thought the flight was from Denver to Houston Hobby, which didn't make much sense to me.

To be fair, I might expect most FTers who know that the major airport in Tasmania is in Hobart (i.e. know of Hobart at all) would also know the airport code
