Shortcut to UA Gold, Plat, 1K (Targeted?) by flying EWR-LHR Polaris segments

Got an email from UA a few hours ago. The promotion in summary:

Gold status with 1 roundtrip in Polaris
Platinum status with 2 roundtrips in Polaris
1K status with 4 roundtrips in Polaris

Travel between EWR and LHR in revenue fare buckets of J, C, D, Z, P. Complete travels by December 15, 2019, and status would be granted for next year.

*Roundtrip is defined as two flight segments flown between New York/Newark (EWR) and London Heathrow (LHR) and can begin in any location. Flights must be in Polaris Business, eligible for Premier Qualifying Dollar credit and booked in one of the following fare classes: J, C, D, Z, P (all revenue fare classes). For this promotion, flight requirements can be completed as roundtrips, or as individual segments that don’t need to be on the same reservation. Flight segment requirements for this offer are not the same as Premier Qualifying Segments (PQS). Please see terms and conditions for more information.

I don't think so, at least not in non-stop fashions. Only BA, VS, and UA fly between EWR and LHR non-stop.

That's my understanding also. Odd wording for any UA promo but likely a cut and paste error

Maybe they mean that it's OK to connect beyond LHR on the same ticket using a *A partner, such as LH to FRA? This would align a bit with the rule that you can start anywhere.

but then you would be traveling between EWR and FRA, even though the ultimate destination would be LHR.

Agreed with winecountry, the language is somewhat vague. Best to play it safe.

However, something like ORD-EWR-LHR seems to be OK according to the rules but not EWR-LHR-FRA by your reading?

Both routing would be okay based on my read. However, the only *A carrier operating between EWR and LHR is UA

The T&Cs refer to segments between EWR & LHR as the requirement.

That's my point: have a segment in Polaris (and operated by UA of course, automatically) between EWR and LHR, then put whatever else (UA, RJ affiliates, *A partners, etc.) you want onto the ticket. The only thing that matters is EWR-LHR or vv.

I got targeted as well,

So...come on this FT.

What is the best city pairs to do this for the least amount of money and on what dates?

I personally am not enough of a matrix wizard, but with routing codes it should be easy to force this together right?

Also EWR-LHR was served by AI, but that has ended so the only *A flights between EWR and LHR are on UA.
