Smile If it's not ontime, delayed, or canceled, what is it? (Least substantive contender)

Due to fly home EWR-CLE tomorrow and having wrapped up early was looking at other options than what I have booked.

Math has never been my strongest subject but 45% (on-time) + 50% (late) + 0% (canceled) would seem to equal 95% … so what about that other 5% "abducted by aliens"? "enjoyable enhancements"?

You can easily click on the (i) button to find out why.

On-time: arrival within 15 minutes of schedule
Late: arrival >30 minutes late

So that would make it "almost on-time" or "almost late", depending whether one is a glass half-full or half-empty sort of person.

5% decided they didn't want to go to CLE and flew somewhere else.

I don't think the plane falls from the sky one flight in twenty, so maybe diverted? However, 5% still seems excessive.

If you had a choice of CLE or somewhere else, which would you choose?

Captain: “Ladies and gentlemen, we are heading to CLE . . . Unless, you REALLY would rather go to (fill in the blank with somewhere fun and reasonably close by).”

Has as to be some explanation for that 5%.

Maybe that 5% decided to not go to EWR.

Hijackings? Or would that be included in Canceled.

Alien abductions?

I'm holding out for "landed at wrong airport" or does that only happen in Cincinnati?

Here's one where 11% are unaccounted for.
  • UA427 ORD-EWR Aug 2019

    • On time
      66%
    • Late
      23%
    • Canceled
      0%

The missing cases are those >15 minutes but not more than 30 minutes late

I was under the impression the OP was soliciting humorous responses and the original post was more in jest than to garner an accurate explanation.
Could be wrong though....wouldn't be the first time!

While my post was tongue-in-cheek (as I imagine most of the replies are intended)... Is a flight that arrives A+16 or later by (DOT) definition late? If not why aren't the missing % lumped in with one-time?
