An ID is scanned during initial biometric registration. An individual's document (usually a driver's license) occasionally does not scan correctly (worn/faded/scratches/code resolution/etc), so an alternate ID (eg passport) might come in handy at initial biometric registration.
I’m an existing CLEAR member with an annual subscription, can I take advantage of the United preferred pricing for CLEAR?
If your CLEAR account was created or renewed less than 60 days ago, you’ll receive a refund for the difference of what you paid. Refunds normally take 3-5 business days after you add your United MileagePlus number to your CLEAR account.

I really hope this continues to be the case and that CLEAR scales properly at SFO. I've been a CLEAR member since the first iteration that got sold off and CLEAR + PreCheck has dramatically reduced my time to gate at SFO. Flying out of ATL not long ago where Delta is king and CLEAR is also free/discounted for Delta elites, the CLEAR line looked like Disneyland - it snaked around a couple times and wasn't moving very quickly

Had just renewed CLEAR a few weeks ago. Connected my MP number to it at beginning of the week, received email this morning that my fee will be refunded to form of payment. Nice! ^

Though I miss the days when they would drop you off at the front of the belt, and not just past the TSA agent (CAS agent at SFO.) What ever happened to that? Surprised I can't find anyone talking about it when searching FT.

Yikes, that sounds terrible! CLEAR has always been seconds to security for me.

Ah yes, being dropped off at the front of the belt! Up until last year or so this was still a thing at LAS with CLEAR - I really miss those days too

I was unable to link my UA account to my Clear account online, but Clear responded to my email requesting a switch from DL to UA in about 36 hours, and my account now shows a zero dollar renewal in September. ^

......and if you have elite status, the CLEAR agent will escort you to the front of the elite line. You're taken to the front ot whatever line you're eligible to use at the checkpoint. However, there can be airport setups where PreCheck is on the other end of the terminal from CLEAR and in those cases, CLEAR only takes you to some nearby line. IIRC ATL has a CLEAR place only for those with PreCheck and another CLEAR place that includes those without PreCheck, or maybe it's the reverse, so you sometimes need to verify the airport's setup before approaching a line, but this is true even for those without CLEAR.

Just used CLEAR for the first time at SFO (Int'l) today. The pre-check line was at least half a dozen people deep, so I easily saved a couple of minutes. Only being partially facetious there. For free, it's a fantastic deal. Simply not having to extract my ID is a win.

I sailed past a long line waiting for the Precheck, ID check which I’d had to suffer 12 days previously.

Just signed up at DCA when visiting family. The agents were fast but then surprised (since I wasn't flying, just wanted to do it while there) when I didn't have a BP.
It was great, and fast. But they did note seeing an uptick in UA flyers enrolling there - so I can only imagine what a hub airport must be experiencing.

Thanks to this FT thread I enrolled this morning. Without seeing this would not have enrolled or been aware of this benefit for a 1K member.
So good to not need my physical ID until I get to the Centurion Lounge.

As mentioned up-thread; I am hoping EWR will start CLEAR by "the end of summer", and it looks like I'll just wait until they do, to finalize enrollment (fingerprints/eye scan).
By the way, the Wiki refers to EWR: does anyone know if that will be in ALL three terminals?

I typically always have precheck. I went to register ON ARRIVAL and the precheck line (and clear line) was closed so there was some initial confusion as to where to find another clear line.
TIP, try to make sure your fingers are good for taking fingerprints (not too cold, etc). The initial scan was poor so when I tried it this morning it didnt scan so well. At first, they only required two fingers. Then when it wasnt working, she said I can try an iris scan. Luckily, I was not actually in a hurry, so the person re-registered me again, gave me some lotion and I got good scans for all my fingers.
It isn't clear to me what is actually required to "pass". Iris scan only?

YES, I found this confusing at first.
