An ID is scanned during initial biometric registration. An individual's document (usually a driver's license) occasionally does not scan correctly (worn/faded/scratches/code resolution/etc), so an alternate ID (eg passport) might come in handy at initial biometric registration.

I’m an existing CLEAR member with an annual subscription, can I take advantage of the United preferred pricing for CLEAR?
If your CLEAR account was created or renewed less than 60 days ago, you’ll receive a refund for the difference of what you paid. Refunds normally take 3-5 business days after you add your United MileagePlus number to your CLEAR account.
Who can become a CLEAR member?
CLEAR welcomes individuals 18 years of age and older.
In order to enroll, you must have one of the following forms of photo identification: US Driver's License, US Passport, US Passport Card, US-issued Permanent Resident Card, State Issued ID, US Military ID, or Global Entry Card.
All forms of identification must be valid, unexpired, not amended and have a photo.

Just got to LAS as part of the mass exodus after a major conference. Must have been a couple hundred people in the pre-check line. Zero people waiting at CLEAR, and I was escorted right past all of them. Nice!

IAD is always a mixed bag for me. Sometimes pre/CLEAR are both empty, or both are busy (last time the CLEAR line was probably 25-30 people deep). DCA I find is almost always light.

So what is the better move at EWR now?
  • The Global Services + Pre line
  • The Clear + Pre?
I haven't traveled anywhere since late October but will be back through EWR Monday.

I’ve been through 4 times since it opened and have done CLEAR 3X and GS once. If clear is empty I use that. GS is almost always empty anyway. Note that GS and clear use the same ID checker so the Clear folks might go before you.

The Clear kiosks (Pre only) are in the middle of the ticketing area, where the no-pre, no-gold track lines are.

Might be better off with GS lobby, since it gets a special x-ray conveyer line, and sometimes those are long at ORD.

Question: I signed up for Clear earlier in the month (on Dec. 8) as a Plat and paid $109. I unexpectedly hit 1K this week. Will I be able to ask for a refund? Thank you.

Seems like it would more efficient to contact them directly and ask?

They will most likely cancel your membership, you will get a pro-rated refund, then immediately sign you back up at the 1K rate.

Anyone experienced the new CLEAR in EWR? How does it compare with GS Lobby?

If you use the elevator from GS reception AND the escort to the head of the TSA line is there to assist, go the GS route. If he’s not there, go CLEAR as the area where the CLEAR and GS lanes intersect is confusing and people get hacked off if you try to get ahead of them as a GS without the escort. If you do not use the GS reception, CLEAR is better but annoying because of the awkward layout.

Let’s face facts- EWR stinks

12/28 PM @ DEN - North checkpoint; no waiting; saved a few minutes over regular PreCheck
1/4 PM @ MCO - B terminal; we were the only ones in the CLEAR area; saved quite a bit of time; interacted with the friendliest CLEAR employee ever; the odd thing is that you have to cut across multiple non-PreCheck lanes to get to PreCheck

I swear Mrs. Swede is a former MIB agent. Fingerprint scans rarely work on her; she had to use the iris scanner both times

Huge line at DEN south checkpoint at 9:30am today.

Guy in grey pants was not the end of the line. There were probably 6 or more behind him.
