UA vs SQ for SFO-HYD using award tix..?

Hi Experts,

Wanted to get experts opinion on whether to use 42.5K miles to book UA award in Y for SFO-SIN-BKK-HYD or spend an extra 3.5K miles to book a SQ award redemption for SFO-SIN-HYD using 46k miles, its 36 Hr vs 21Hr lights time as well with one less stop over for SQ. I've done both the sectors about 2 years ago and wasn't impressed with UA's service/food on 17Hr SFO-SIN flight, Not sure if that has changed lately. Another factor tilting in SQ's favor is cash portion being only $12 where as UA is about $90 (close in booking included). However I like night departure times of UA compared to SQ's late morning.

Just wanted to check if saving 3.5k UA miles are worth flying UA in SFO-SIN where as I have a confirmation on SQ for same sector.

Also Is 50 min enough transit time to go from term1 to term2 in SIN for SQ flights.

Appreciate your inputs..

Thanks

The confirmed SFO-SIN on SQ is an award seat? Booked using UA miles? I don’t even think that is possible?

but saving 15 hours why is this even a debate

Do yourself a favor and fly SQ. Much better service and substantially less time in economy. No brainer for 3.5K mikes.

Unless you're 8,444 butt-in-seat miles away from some magic UA threshold, fly SQ.

never been an issue (except recent IT glitches) to book coach award tickets on SQ

I have never seen SQ Nonstop options on UA award tickets to/from the US. I am always presented UA nonstops or connections in Asia. All other segments yes I have seen and occasionally ticketed for SQ segments.

I have, but it's rare.

Regardless, the OP is not talking about an SQ redemption using MileagePlus miles, because the SQ ticket doesn't include a close-in fee whereas the UA ticket does. That would only make sense if the SQ ticket were being purchased through a different program.

OP: 50 minutes is the minimum connection time published by SQ, regardless of terminal. How important Is it to make the connection? When's the next HYD flight? I would only book that if the consequences of a missed connection were low.

I would do 50 minutes at SIN flying SQ.

There's another flight 1:50 later in any event.

Note that SIN to HYD is on SilkAir. I've travelled this route a few times and service is good.

Some questions are "51/49%" choices. This would be a total no-brainer decision for me. SQ is excellent in very many regards, connections are good, and you avoid 15 hours of travel. The only downside is a (very doable) 50 minute connection at SIN, which is mitigated (as Kacee points out) with a flight less than 2 hours later. Grab it!!!

One less connection and shorter travel time make the Singapore option more compelling. The one advantage of the United option is extra legroom seats - important if you're tall.

Out of curiosity I checked and KrisFlyer Saver one way is 46k US-India. So that must be it. No brainer take SQ.
