ANA Lounge HNL - UA Discussions
Recently, during my usual SFO-HNL-GUM-HKG journey, I was able to stop by the new ANA Lounge HNL. Here is the link for the lounge review:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/all-...l#post31284533
To avoid cross-post, in addition to the lounge review, here are some observations that can be useful to any UA elites who are interested in visiting there.
1. Going to the lounge
UA's gates are mostly in G Gates and the new ANA Lounge HNL is in C Gates. NH has chartered a shuttle going between G and C. However, the shuttle will only pick up pax who have ongoing NH BP (F/J for sure, Y maybe) only. The shuttle won't transport anyone else.
If you want to access the lounge, you must take the HNL's own Wiki-Wiki Shuttle. It is too long to walk.
Note - because WN also has a special shuttle to transport its own pax to baggage claim. And the Wiki-Wiki Shuttles do not make clear about its destinations. Make sure you take the right shuttle.
2. Lounge Access
Be prepared that you may not be able to access the lounge.
Because the lounge's hours are tailored for NH's HNL morning/afternoon departures, so unless you can arrive before the last NH flight, you will not get access. It also means that you may have to leave early.
What makes this even worse is the lounge is not only staffed by NH, but UA as well. Yes - you are reading correctly that there is a UA GA inside the lounge. In that case, it may not that easy for you to get access if you travel domestically, unlike the *G lounge elsewhere in the U.S. While I have not discussed this issue with the only UA GA in the lounge, apparently UA won't mind you using the lounge in lieu of the UC HNL when you are traveling on either HNL-NRT/GUM.
3. Expectation
For those of you who have accessed the ANA Lounge elsewhere before, keep in mind, don't set your expectation high.
This lounge is definitely better than the UC HNL. But compare to other ANA Lounge systemwide, even anew, the lounge's amenities are simply average. They ain't bad, but simply not good enough.
4. Last thought
The ANA Lounge HNL is definitely worth stopping by if you have access. Otherwise, it is a lounge you won't be missed.
Hope you all enjoy.

Connecting from HA out of Maui to SFO, so ANA lounge is sort of on the way between the two. Definitely going to. check it out. I do like the mac salad at the HNL UC (calories and carbs be darned)...

From the ANA website - It is *G flying on a ANA or Star Alliance operating flight. So, if you are flying to Maui on HA and you are *G, they would deny

That I understand. But there is no basis they can deny me when I fly with UA (as long as they are open) from HNL to continental US, right?

Not sure why UA should deny entry at ANA lounge while not doing same at, for example, LH lounge at IAD. I’ll try next month and see what happens. No big deal if denied - I’ll go drown my sorrows in a bigger helping of mac salad at the UC after having wasted 5-10 minutes. Certainly would be an example of inconsistent access to partner lounges provided by UA.

Only other place I remember seeing airline personnel at a non-airline lounge is the Star Alliance in LAX (though, UA obviously doesn't have any staff there). I once some pax having difficulties accessing the Star Alliance LAX and airline personnel had no authority in regards to access policy, so I don't think UA staff could step in to deny/allow access.
Will be interesting to see more reports though!
It is still possible to walk though right? Can't be as bad as the TBIT hike in LAX?
