Anyone know what’s going on at EWR? Everyone is being diverted.

Looks like UAL1591 was the last one in, but no idea if they're the emergency.

Initial reports have it as UAL 2098 which diverted from LGA after takeoff.

Photos appear to confirm

Apparently they had to evacuate a plane on the runway. That’s according to our pilot.

From Twitter, UA2098 LGA-IAH made emergency landing at EWR. Emergency slides were deployed as passengers evacuated on runway.

What was the flight's intended destination?

To answer my own question, I see it was IAH according to the tweet posted above.

Happy to see that at least some passengers didn’t carelessly leave their carry-on items aboard the aircraft when they evacuated.

Held up in DEN because of this. Seemed like we boarded an almost full 757 in record time only to be told we have to wait.

Airport reopened after about an hour. Closure due to UA 2098 (LGA-IAH) flight making an unscheduled landing due to hydraulic brake problems. Minor injuries. Some damage to a runway.

Spoke to my son who is a dispatcher (not UA) they are down to one run way, so long waits for today.
Going to IAH would have had a decent amount of gas which might explain the tires. Interestingly the initial ATC chatter
he heard was that is had an on board fire
