I've been able to grab 'em on the day of departure. Back-up plan helps.

CPAP is not restricted. The OP is surely welcome to ask, but any answer that she gets other than "it doesn't matter WHERE you sit" should be put down as being provided by a MOLA*.

We are very flexible on dates - I put in May 2011 on the UA web site & then just picked a few dates they had available.

Getting hotels with Marriott points will be little harder I think!!

All UA transpac flights offer free drinks, finding an FA to serve one to you may be another story.

SFO-SYD-LAX, no overnight.... Can I be that crazy?

I am flying SFO-SYD-LAX next week. About 5 hours on the ground in SYD. NC class.

Am I out of my mind? The fare was low (about $900 because of a 20% coupon).

Since it's NC, for that price, and I'm a FTer like you, I'd say absolutely normal!

If you had posted this in the Mileage Run Discussion forum, almost everybody there would say that you were not only normal, but probably a hero.

Not crazy. Eccentric.

And you're probably going to need a good lie down and a stiff drink at the end of it

+1. For $900 and confirmed NC, that is not only a great upgradeable fare, but icing on the cake that you don't have to sweat out your upgrades at the gate. Even in E+, even hard-core mileage runners concede it's a pretty tough turnaround.

I assume you've been to SYD and have no real interest in going again?

Otherwise, if you've never been there, yes, you are crazy for going that far and not staying overnight at least.

Even with a 20% off coupon, you found a better than average W fare for that routing. There's a ton to see and do in SYD, but I'm guessing you just want the miles.
You said no overnight, but actually there are 2 overnights involved. Enjoy the C....

You're not out of your mind. I did DEN-SFO-SYD-SFO-DEN with seven hours on the ground in SYD. In addition, I flew both was in E+. The Air NZ Lounge and Annie will be the reward for flying so far!

A lot of MRs to Sydney going on right now. A friend of mine did a same day turn around in E+ last week on a Tware fare. His new iPad made time "fly" by.
