781 maintenance disruptions
UA240 EWR-LAX was cancelled yesterday and today due to "maintenance-related schedule disruptions" (same for the inbound flight for the a/c which is typically UA1882 LAX-EWR)
1) Is there a broader maintenance issue with the 781s? Looks like they've been taking delivery of about 1/month since last November. 2) Also curious that UA didn't sub a 772 or 752 (or even a 320) on either day but opted to cancel the flight altogether. Status: We're sorry to let you know that your flight (UA 240) on June 13 has been canceled because of maintenance-related schedule disruptions. |

just the usual UA maintenance issues. Hopefully not another summer from hell. EWR-CDG cancelled last night and also a SFO-EWR rotation today cancelled on top of the LAX one. So it looks like 3 781s are out of service for maintenance ... definitely not good. UA is running soooo thin right now with the 7M9 issues that they can't sub planes anymore. |
All back in service. Two unrelated issues but lack of slack in the fleet means there are fewer spares to cover maintenance-related cancellations. |

Thankfully, UA did not order its 781s with the RR engines, otherwise there would be some serious schedule disruptions.

I believe the 787-10 is referred to as the B78X (ICAO) or 78J (IATA), but not as the 781.

My SFO-IAD flight on June 8 was cancelled because of a maintenance issue. I believe that was also a 781

Totally related but unrelated. My mother in law was to be on that flight (after a 3 hour maintenance delay in ATH) she then was on ORD-SEA which had over a 6 hour delay. She was.... tired when she finally got home.

Has she considered whether she is eligible for EC261 compensation?

I hadn’t seen it mentioned but DUB-EWR cancelled on Wednesday (6/12). Anyone know why? Looks like inbound arrived, and another inbound came on 6/13 and departed. Where did the 6/12 plane go? curious whether it got reassigned to cover a fuller flight from Europe.. tried using flightaware to answer but no luck., |

They are responsible for any costs incurred by passengers for controllable delays. In addition, European law requires them to pay compensation to anyone who is delayed by more than 4 hours. |
June 8, UA751 was originally a 781, but was delayed 2 hours, and swapped in a 767. One txt stated "brake maintenance" as reason for the delay.

Perils of flying a new model, and I have a habit of new aircraft chasing. My scheduled EWR-SFO 78J became a 772 a few weeks back. Nearly all flights for about a two week period had the same thing happen. DLs A220s are going MX at a pretty high rate, too. Guess it's like a new car model, sometimes you need to let someone else break them in.
