Are we due any compensation?

Don't do anything until you speak with the TA. They ought to simply rebook the trip for you at no additional cost. This time, even though you will have to pick up the tab, fly out a day or two early and spend some time in the UK.

Alternatively, if the travel insurance really covers the cost of the package, that may work just as well, although we are moving into high season and rebooking yourself may cost more.

I tried to look it up, suspecting that perhaps it was another name for Apple Vacations or whatever our local big package "travel agent" is called. Also, I was trying to ask the OP since I suspect that we have some local suburban travel agencies and travel agents who work from home part time who are anything but professional/responsible/knowledgable.

From their yelp page (presuming it is them), it appears you will be going the insurance or CC chargeback route:

Yet another plug here for only doing business with a real bricks & mortar TA who has experience in the type of travel you want to book and who is recommended to you by people you know and trust.

Still working on getting refunds. United refunded ticket costs to TA, Cunard refunded some costs to TA, will deal with Travel Guard for other costs. United gave $400 per person for future travel.
Have booked passage on QM2 transatlantic in late August and have learned our lesson. Flying Delta non-stop MSP to LHR and spending two nights in Southampton before sailing Should give us a margin of safety.
Thanks to everyone for discussion.

Ouch, two nights in Southampton. You’ll probably end up with a tattoo and a hazy memory of how that came to be!

Better than standing on the dock watching the QM2 sail away!

In my experience, this is not true at all. Every cruise line I've researched, and I'd say every reputable cruise line, gives you the option of arriving early.
