PQDs are mostly earned by flying, but not all elites are subject to PQD requirements. PQDs can also be earned by Economy Plus purchases (by flight or subscription), although for anyone seeking to qualify for Gold or above an annual plan (min. $499) gets you nothing. There is no way to "pay" UA to fulfill PQD requirement in the qualifying year. There may be a status buy-up in January of the next year -- not cheap and does not come in small increments,
Non-USA registered MP members are exempt from PQD requirements.
Others can be exempt from PQDs up to the Premier Platinum level by having a Chase PresidentalPlus credit card {not open to new members} or by annually spending $25,000 or more as a primary MP branded Chase credit cardholder.
PQMs can be earned by flying UA or various flight partners and by various bonuses related to flying (class or service, promos, ...)
PQMs can be purchased by Premier Accelerator purchases. Generally, these purchase do not earn PQDs, starting in 2019, some PQM purchases do earn PQDs Buying PQMs, PQSs, and PQDs on mystatus.United.com / email
Certain legacy (not available to new customers) Chase MP credit cards earn PQMs or FPQMs

If you can find an SFO-IAD R/T, even with a P fare you are looking at 7257 PQM. Can be done in a day. (2419+4838 = 7257)

Thanks good suggestions, keep them coming.

I do have my heart set on Austria and the Dolomites but certainly may make more sense to do transcons, even a couple of them.

I'm not a mileage runner though, I wouldn't fly without staying a day or two at least.

NY, Boston, Montreal hotel prices are ridiculous though haven't been to NY in a long while.

If you already have the PQS and PQD, why the need to hit the PQM mark? Did I misunderstand your OP?

I assume OP means the 4 minimum UA metal segments, not PQS.

LAX to LHR is $600ish RT. Do it once in September, and complete it.

If OP goes via P fare, he or she may as well shoot for Platinum as they will have overshot Gold by thousands of PQM.

Why not just monitor the Mileage Run Discussion and Mileage Run Ideas forums for ideas and deals? You might get better ideas for cheaper.

Best Route to 1K

I was going to let 1K slide this year after the PQD bump to $15,000. However I lucked into a $2,000 ETC for taking a bump from 6.3 to 6.4 and am considering trying for 1K one last time, but could use some advice, as I'm a total newbie at mileage runs. I've been doing some searching but having trouble finding trips to accomplish my goal listed below.

The Facts:

PQM: Currently booked travel will get me to 72,152 PQM, so I need 28,848 to reach 100,000 miles.
PQD: Currently booked travel will get me to $11,648 PQD, so I need $3,352 to reach $15,000.
I am based in Chicago, currently 1K.
I am currently holding a $2,000 ETC just received for taking a bump yesterday.
I have 4 GPU's remaining for 2019.
I have full flexibility from 10/11/2019-12/31/2019 to take any necessary mileage runs/trips.
I like beach and/or casino locations. I did a Hawaii overnight mileage run last year and loved it. I'm interested in Singapore-Marina Bay Sands , I've enjoyed trips to St. Maarten and Bahamas in the past. Also interested in Aruba.

The Goal:

To reach 1K with as few miles over 100,000 and as few dollars over $15,000 as possible, while leveraging the 4 GPU's I have available and enjoying fun beach and/or casino vacation(s).

Any suggestions from the Flyer Talk Experts would be greatly appreciated! Please ask if I need to post any add'l information. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Casino in Singapore with some beach time in Thailand. That's what I would do.

Well - you can fly ORD-HNL on a P fare with your ETC, they run about $2100 give or take roundtrip - you'll have lie flat and around 17,000 PQM

this is what I did last year and it worked out exactly as you suggested. I guess the issue with this is it leaves me 12,000 PQM short with only about another $1,000 to spend, so I think I need a little more PQM per dollar. For example I could get over 20,000 going to Singapore for around $750 in economy, but I’m not sure how to best use my GPUs to make that bearable.

is it ever possible to use GPU on a long trip like this? If so how do I identify those opportunities?

Well - if you get yourself to SFO on a cheap ticket, you can buy biz direct to SIN for $3,500 in November and not deal with GPU stress......25,000 PQM and $3,400 give or take PQD

I don't gamble as much as I used to, but personally I really hate the casino in Singapore - no drinks at the table, very high per play minimums, and not even allowed to have ATMs on the floor. Very tame and boring to me.

Yes, but you have to choose the flights and days properly. I was on HKG->EWR yesterday and GPU cleared at initial booking. There were tons of empty seats and 17 people cleared the upgrade list at the gate as well, with there even being 13 empty businessfirst seats as well.

OP - I recommend you make a trip over to HKG via SFO or EWR in either Premium Plus or Business. For PP, prices are just under $2,000 and you get 13,000 miles each way. You can get take a ferry to Macau for some gambling and also hang out in Hong Kong as well.
