UA 787-8 Polaris Cabin Retrofit NOW (not 787-8, mislabeled 773)

Hi folks

New here. UA just flashed me a seating change IAD-SFO for Thurs 4/4 flt 424. It lists as a 787-8 and has the new Polaris (1-2-1) config and we got the 2 in row 1. Gotta be their first! reconfig, right?!

Anyone have any insight into this? I'm eggsited

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

The label on the seat map is often wrong when there's a change in the type of plane assigned to your flight. As JOSECONLSCREW28 said, this is currently scheduled to be operated by a 777-300ER. (One giveaways the 3-4-3 seating in the back; the 787 is 3-3-3).

Don’t get too excited - it might change before you board

If only OP had posted yesterday it would have been a good’un too.

OP, despite your being mistaken on this one, enjoy your Polaris flight. I’m very impressed with the seats and have experienced the “surprise and delight” of getting a Polaris swap in on domestic a couple of times.

If it seems to good to be true

...it usually is. But true Polaris in a 77W domestic isn't so shabby either.

It's better. Wider seat.

In almost every respect the 77W that got swapped in is going to be better than the original 788:
  1. True Polaris seat (direct aisle access at every seat)
  2. Almost 2x as many business class seats (36 vs 60)
  3. And if your upgrade does not clear, Premium Economy seats that you can book into if you are elite
