More UA routes with 5k saver awards
Per TPG United is now offering more than a few routes as low as 5k one-way, with little relation to the distance traveled (though many are short routes like SFO/LAX-LAS). Sounds good to me, provided it’s not the first step towards eliminated award charts like Skypesos
Apologies if there is already a thread.

IAH-LAS is about twice as far as SFO-LAS and also 5k.

That makes me thing it's less of a SkyPesos type change - Delta basically just makes their award pricing follow their cash pricing. If United is just picking some routes regardless of cash pricing, might be more an attempt to see if they can wring some ancillary revenue out of someone with 5k in credit card miles but otherwise no status.

It actually looks clearly pricing related based on my single city pair experience.
I was looking at LAS flights (without having read this thread) and stumbled upon prices ranging from 6K to 25K for economy awards, and almost everything in between as I looked at various days. I didn't meticulously assess, but the correlation with the available $$ fare was pretty apparent on inspection.
6K miles for a $96 fare is still barely credible for me though. Put another way, if I could fly to Europe in business class for $960 one way, I'd do that rather than spend 60,000 miles.

The new pricing at 8,500 miles is attractive, and I'm certain to be taken advantage of it for upcoming ski trips.

That's not true of domestic coach fares. It's like JetBlue or Southwest where the award price is a function of the lowest available paid fare -- xxx points per $.
