I’ve had most of my CPUs go through at T-72 as a platinum, but I’m not flying out of a hub (PDX-SFO, DEN, ORD in the last month)

As 1K use to almost always get them sub T24, often not until the gate (if I cleared at all). As GS I have had only one CPU clear on a SFO-LAX run at approx T48 hrs otherwise I have not had much luck with CPUs.

If it doesn't clear before 24h, then it's usually bye bye upgrade for me.

That made me laugh...

The only time my upgrade clears is when I use a RPU (J is 2 maybe even 0) and then magically there are 3 seats open in J and 5 people walked up to the front.
But when there are 12 plus seats open at T-24 and no one on the list 10 people pop up on the list at T-4 and I always miss it... Murphy's law

Mixed bag for me. Some at T-96 (as 1K), some in between T-96 and T-24, some after checking in, and sometimes never. Earlier this week:

CLE- IAH
12 seats in F
1 booked prior to check in -- 11 available at T-24 (per flight status)
Check in at T-24
Never got an upgrade and no one else did, either, from looks of the upgrade list
It looks like they sold 11 seats with TODs

I got CPUs to clear at 48+ as a Plat just two weeks ago. One at 72 I am pretty sure. And these were all award segments. ^

If those 11 lucky souls never checked in (within T-24 h) before UA ran the upgrade, those names would never appear on "Upgrade Standby List" of your App with a check mark (if cleared). How quickly did those seats disappear? If they disappeared gradually (one seat every hour or so), TOD was more likely. Otherwise, UA ran the upgrades for other higher status pax.
Good luck next time.

Now that is some bad luck. I got denied CLE-DIA 2 weeks ago, was #5 at check in and went to #1/2 at take off. Don't know if they sold (TOD) or if some where just GS with instruments.

Yes. My flights last month was upgraded on both segments going and both coming back. Short hops SAN-SFO, SFO-LAS, LAS-SFO, SFO-SAN. All flights were a CPU about 3-4 days before travel. In addition, the LAS-SFO flight was delayed so they switched me to LAS-LAX and upgrade stuck.

My flights today SAN-LAX and LAX-LAS the CPUs came through a couple of days ago and today the return flights have also been upgraded.

CPUs on short hops are happening.

I have a flight later this month, SAN-ORD where I have applied an RPU and hoping for similar success.

The GPUs are not happening but the CPUs (on short hops) are working a treat and I do not appear on the UG list as outside the 24 hour window.
