Rumor Only: Etihad Launching Partnership with UA?

https://onemileatatime.com/etihad-united-partnership/

From Lucky at OMAAT.

This is a rumor I’ve been hearing for a while now from reputable sources, and in the past 24 hours I’ve seen several people mention this publicly, so I figured I’d share my take and what I know. Let’s call this a rumor for now, since this kind of stuff is always subject to change.
If true, would be great news!

If this is true that could be potentially huge. On the other hand I am pretty sure UA will find a way to block award use on EY.

Eh, even if true, it doesn't necessarily make it much of a benefit if UA makes it difficult or impossible to utilize.

This is exciting, but does Ethihad offer anything that the Star Alliance doesn't have? I know getting to Bahrain was not fun on Turkish, United, or Lufthansa, but besides that is there any flying to second tier cities in India / Pakistan that ain't covered by Turkish? Although a trip to africa or the maldives with a long weekend in the UAE would be awesome as a former expat!

A Non-stop to Dubai - With better planes and service?

One more option to SE Asia would also be welcome.

Well, to an hour from DXB, more if there's traffic

What do you propose as an alternative? Parachute while the aircraft is on final approach?

And this is true w.r.t. virtually all major urban centers. Flying into NYC, LHR, or CDG, you're lucky if it only takes an hour to get into the city.

I think the point is that Etihad's hub is at AUH, not DXB.

45 minutes farther. It's like saying that flying into EWR is not flying into New York. Or IAD isn't Washington DC.

More direct route to S Asia than via FRA. avoiding LH is a bonus. Emirates is cleaning up on this, even from the West Coast where CX/SQ are logical options.
