Travel Waiver: San Francisco Inclement Weather 13-14 Feb 2019

Seems like they really should issue an SFO waiver for tomorrow, Wed Feb 13. There's a high wind warning and a flash floods watch tonight through Thursday morning. It's going to be a mess. I know, that, you know that, United knows that...

Concur. WTH are they waiting for? High wind warning AND significantly more rain than the last SFO waiver. Get to it, UA!!

Update: just got an email from UA, but the waiver isn't listed on the website yet.
http://ig.cdn.responsys.net/i4/respo...RS_CP__/sp.pngAs you may have heard, we're expecting rain and strong winds throughout the Bay Area beginning tomorrow morning (February 13th) and lasting through Thursday (February 14th). We know this storm was not part of your travel plans, so we're going to do our very best to get you where you need to go safely.http://ig.cdn.responsys.net/i4/respo...RS_CP__/sp.pngBe sure to give yourself extra time getting to and from the airport, and if your travel plans are flexible, you may want to consider flying on a different day or connecting in a different hub. The good news is that we'll waive all the change fees, so visit the United app or united.com to check out our alternate options.http://ig.cdn.responsys.net/i4/respo...RS_CP__/sp.pngThanks for flying with us and stay safe!http://ig.cdn.responsys.net/i4/respo...RS_CP__/sp.png

Is it safe to assume that routing through LAX tomorrow is a much better bet than SFO?

Similar forecasts but does LAX get slowed down the way SFO does?

Waiver for SFO for the 13th and 14th was sent around to agencies via the sales channel emails.

LAX much safer. More than 100% safer. LAX has 4 parallel runways, each at acceptable minimum spacing. SFO has 2 sets of parallel runways which cross each other and in inclement weather, cannot be used as parallel. Landings can go from 60 an hour to under 30. Only one pair is used for landing. In ideal conditions, there are 4 available take off runways.

How are the general public meant to hear about the waiver? Why not post on the website as usual?

SFO Weather Waiver 13-14 Feb 2019

San Francisco Inclement Weather

Original Travel Dates: February 13 and 14, 2019.

The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before February 17, 2019, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.

I think everybody flying via SFO during this period received an email re: the waiver (I did as did others on this thread).

Since this travel waiver allows any fare class unlike SDC, does it mean I could potentially switch to a higher fare class, e.g. P->J, and earn more PQM if I manage to find one?

No you will accrue based on your purchased fare class.

Hoping this clears up for Friday AM. Flying SFO-EWR-ZRH. Built in a connection buffer for delays but would like to spend some time in the Polaris lounge in EWR :D

Kacee Feb 12, 2019 7:07 pm

The forecast Friday is for more rain and winds. The earlier you can fly, likely the better. I'm scheduled to fly to EWR in the afternoon on the 781 . . . fingers crossed.

Can you change your flight multiple times with a single weather waiver, or only once?

All times are GMT -6. The time now is 10:51 pm.
