I am back in my original seats. I have also been logged in for over 24 hours now without having to sign back in again. I wonder what on earth they were fiddling with.

I waited till they fixed the problem before booking my HNL-NRT trip. I got "Global First" seats on both the outbound and inbound. YAY

And the closer it is to the flight, the more difficult it is to get a good resolution to a seat screw up.

This I find ultra annoying when I presume they can see who had what seat first from our bookings and the timings. It always seems it's ok for me to be bumped but no-one else can.

In what way is their use of “we’re” incorrect?

Is it possible that the airline only has a single (non-royal) person working on resolving this issue?

I checked, I don’t get it either. We’re = We are. What’s the problem?

Exactly.
We're = We are.
Refers to United employees in their IT department.
What’s the problem?

“We are” contracts to “We’re”, not “Were” and it looks like UA fixed it in their OP.

More importantly, “where” did the seats go?

They fixed it a full day before you quoted what they wrote, but yet you found a reason to insert the "sic" to imply that they used incorrect grammar...
