Does MileagePlus status provide benefits for an ANA operated flight ?
Will United MileagePlus status benefit me at all for a flight I purchased using MileagePlus points? Or does United ignore status for award flights?

The only significant difference I can think of is CPU -- that is only available on award flights to elites with certain MP credit cards (Explorer/Club/PresPlus) and there is no companion CPU. Did you have a concern about a particular benefit? |
Does MileagePlus status provide benefits for an ANA flight booked through United?
I booked a multi-city flight to Japan through United. The flight to Japan is a United flight, but the flight back as well as two flights within Japan are operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) and have ANA/NH codes. Will be MileagePlus status still get me benefits with ANA?

UA Premier Silvers receive Star Alliance Silver -- a very basic set of benefits -- Priority reservations waitlist Priority Stand-by Essentially nothing but there may be a check-in benefit sometimes Other UA Premiers (Gold and higher) do better as Star Alliance Gold Priority Airport Check-in Extra Baggage Allowance Gold Track (Priority Security & Immigration) Airport Lounge Access Priority Boarding Priority Baggage Handling Priority Reservation Waitlist Priority Airport Stand-by |
1K flying on ANA
I was wondering if there are any benefits, preferred seats, etc.
It would be on a K fare so can't use the GPU. Is a 2 hr connection United to Ana...SFO-NRT-BKK doable? |
2 hours is absolutely no problem. "No" on preferred seats. Access to lounges and priority boarding are about only benefits.
|
Two hours conx is fine, that is, as long as UA isn't too late. Depending on which gates, you could do a fair amount of walking at NRT.
IME, 1Ks on NH are bundled with *A Gold, so nothing special. If you haven't tried the NH lounge in NRT, check it out. |
No preferred seating, 1K status doesn't matter outside of United - what you will be able to use is your Star Gold privileges. IAH-OIL-TRASH identified the key *G benefits, which doesn't include preferred seating.
For reference, even United doesn't allow other *A elite members (or *G) to select economy plus. |
There are no "preferred" seats on ANA - once at NRT, inside the lounge there is a concierge who can assign exit row and bulkhead seats if they are still available. As mentioned, 1K means nothing on other airlines, it's only *G that carries any privileges, which are the same regardless of whether you are UA Premier Gold or Global Services.

In a past, 1K-enabled, life i often flew on ANA. Several times I scored upgrades to biz just by asking (in that oh-so polite japanese way) if there were any upgrades for loyal 1K flyers.
It's always worth a try. |
I often find that politely asking a gate or lounge agent for an exit row or other extra-legroom seat usually works out!
