I ask as the fare basis will not allow me to use a GPU (or presumably Points Plus) and trying to get GGBUYUP is very difficult - most agents want to charge me a change fee.
From post above yours, it sounds like it is doable at the gate for ca$h (CC).

How can I try to use my miles to try to get a seat upgrade on a flight I already bought a ticket for?

Do premier benefits carry over to companions when the ticket is redeemed through Chase Ultimate Rewards? I know that a redemption will still count as a revenue ticket but I wonder if my premier benefits would still carry over if I buy a ticket for my companion. The scenario I am hoping for is my companion would be able to get Economy Plus at check-in (I'm Silver).

Thanks in advance!

Are you traveling together? If so, and you're on the same PNR, your companion will automatically get your benefits. If you are on separate PNRs, you can call at T-24 to get your companion an E+ seat. If you are not traveling together, your benefits do not transfer, no matter how the ticket is purchased.

Newbie Question

Hi! I’m new so this might be a dumb question. Do Saver Awards (for Economy) come with seat assignments? Will I have a free checked bag? Does it matter if I book a Saver Award through a partner vs through United?

If I book through a partner and then I check bags, will I be charged a bag check fee by the partner or by United? I’m asking because I have a United fee credit on my Amex card.

Thanks!

How can I remove a trip from my "My Trips" page, I have already removed my MP# (over the phone), removed my phone number and email address from the trip detail, but I can still see the trip in "My trip" page, I prefer avoid calling again, any suggestions are welcomed!

For now *A award tickets allow seat assignments (a few have a fee -- but those also have a fee for paid regular economy tickets).

The bag allowance will also be the standard paid economy ticket bag allowance. Many carriers may have a "Light" or Basic Economy fare with more restrictions, but award tickets are not presently restricted in that manner.

You can only book via United using UA MP miles -- that can include booking UA or partner flights. You can not use your UA MP miles on a partner website.

If you are checking bags at a partner ticket counter you will be charged by the partner, not UA. You can not check bags with UA unless the first flight is UA operated.

I believe they removed that capability when they downgraded the site.

Thank you Kacee! We will be on separate PNRs but on the same flight. It's good to know I can call to get my companion added, appreciate the help!

My new bride and yours truly will be traveling to Tahiti on our honeymoon several weeks from now. I booked Economy Plus seats LFT-IAH-SFO-PPT. A good friend who is Plat 1K with UA was kind enough to offer to add us to the standby list for upgrades on the IAH-SFO and SFO-PPT flights. I verified we are on the upgrade list for these flights with an MP service rep after being previously told by a UA res agent that we were not on the list. However, when I check our flight info on UA.com, there is no mention of us being on the upgrade list for these flights. Is that the norm with UA? Also, should the upgrade(s) actually clear, will UA refund the additional cost of the Economy Plus seats? Thanks in advance.

Your reservation should show "PZ class requested", "Upgrade requested" or extra waitlisted segment(s) in PZ class. If it shows none of these, something is wrong.

Yes, if the upgrade clears any fee paid for E+ seats on those sectors will be refunded (after travel unless you ask first).

You should see "Upgrade Requested" on the reservation details.

If the upgrades clear, your Economy Plus fees will be refunded.

Therefore, please allow a few rookie questions:

- I am surprised that I have not received a formal recognition (aka automated email) that my status challenge was completed. Are UA usually not doing that? I understand that they will also send a welcome kit, but have read that this takes a couple of weeks.
- My digital card now shows valid until 01/20, but the status is supposed to extend into 2021. When will this be updated?
- Is there such thing as a „soft landing“, if you don‘t qualify for your current status or any higher tier?

Thanks for some constructive replies and please apologise, if any of the answers that I am looking for, could be found elsewhere.
