This itinerary was purchased two months ago. I saw P9, PN2 and PZ2 this morning and decided to upfare from K to W. After I cleared the upgrades, it became P7, PN0 and PZ0.

4. Y-O, Y-J, O-J is for providing which class you were upgrading from-to.
So,
- Y-O means an upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy
- Y-J means an upgrade from Economy to Business Class
- O-J means an upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class

4. O-J
5. Purchased 4 days in advance
6. Upgraded at booking (only booked this ticket because it's PZ9)
Waitlisted for TPE-SFO but I'll get that one soon IMO. Also booked "R". Flight is PN3 PZ0 but is RN9 so anyone waitlisted with a GPU has already upgraded to PremEco.
Also interesting to note that the "R" fare was about $300 more than the "W" fare. For $300 I'll wind up with an extra 9,000 PQM. Seems like a good deal to me. Plus, if for some very odd reason TPE-SFO comes down to the wire I'll be #1 or darn near it on the upgrade list beating out all those who bought economy.

5. Purchased 12 days in advance.
6. Upgraded 9 days out (3 days after booking). Never saw the flight show PZ>0 so it happened overnight.
Two upgrades on this ticket after being waitlisted and zero emails confirming the upgrade came through. At least it's a pleasant surprise when you look online and see the flight segment as "Upgrade confirmed" in bold letters.

This makes 4/6 GPUs cleared so far this year. All requests were processed =) That makes me quite happy this year. (I'm also flying mid-week instead of fighting weekend trips TPAC which I think helps a lot.)

6. Upgrade cleared about two weeks in advance
I have to be vague about the timing because I didn't get an e-mail about the upgrade clearing. So it could have happened anytime between my checking the reservation... Thursday, maybe... and my looking at it in the app today and seeing "Upgrade Confirmed" and an odd-numbered window seat number that will be appreciated if the flight, as seems increasingly likely, switches to a Polaris configuration.

ha. I blame jet lag in India for that. It is Paid Business to First on Lufthansa. I edited the post.
