You are starting the year well!

Small correction: I suppose that your flights are in 2019.

EWR-EDI booked yesterday in W for travel early in Feb 2019.
Y-J (after booking because I used an eCert, but PZ3 at booking using an extended 2018 GPU).
Outbound EDI-EWR, was/is PZ0, was offered fare difference buy up to J at booking. Checked afterwards and was offered Y-J buyup for $672.

EWR - HKG

1. Route: EWR-HKG
2. Date: Jan 15
3. Fare class: W
4. Econ to Polaris Business
5. How many days/weeks in advance ticket was purchased: 32
6. How many days/weeks before departure did upgrade clear: 9

Originally booked and wait-listed for Polaris using GPU outbound SEA-SFO-HKG. SFO-HKG 10 days out J booked full with 10+ 1Ks on wait list.

Expert mode showed PZ3 EWR-HKG. Called 1K desk and agent "worked it" to SEA-IAD-EWR-HKG. IAD-EWR-HKG confirmed in first/Polaris. SEA-IAD wait-listed for first. No change fee. No fare difference charged. Amazing!

Routing gives me 6 hours to hang out in EWR Polaris Lounge and confirmed lie-flat to HKG, despite SEA-IAD red-eye.

Fingers-crossed it all works out!!

UPDATE: SEA-IAD cleared (T-6 days)

BOS > SFO

NB: Used GPU that was expiring 1/31/19

1. Route: BOS > SFO
2. Date: Jan 25
3. Fare class: S
4. Econ to Business
5. How many days/weeks in advance ticket was purchased: 30
6. How many days/weeks before departure did upgrade clear:19

Sweep's didn't clear the upgrade - manual check of availability found PZ1 - called 1K desk who promptly cleared the space

Not an upgrade but an idea if there could be a thread that when you find PZ>0 you post it, similar to the mileage run forum

then if you need it you can book it.

I just saw on Monday yyc-sfo PZ=4 so I booked one

same with yyc-sfo, sfo- akl on Jan 22 PZ>0

and still at PZ=9 MEL-LAX May 28 JUST CHECKED STILL GOOD

not sure if it would be too much data or if it could be by departure city

really the start of an idea but would need guidance from FT big brains to sort details

If you'd like to start that thread, then by all means do so. But I think it would be best to keep this thread limited to reports of actual GPU success, per the format described in the Wiki, above. Alternatively, when reporting a specific GPU success here, there's certainly nothing wrong with adding a comment that the flight still has PZ>0 available.

I think a thread on that topic is a bad idea. Would encourage United to turn Expert Mode off, ruining it for everyone.

People can start whatever threads they like.

Similar threads have been started in the past and just faded away because people don't really post in them. The idea this will somehow lead to UA shutting upgrade space or expert mode is to me just silly.

Tuesdays MEL/LAX is always a pretty good bet for finding space.
