UA949 LHR-SFO 06MAR
Your plane is on its way from Washington-Dulles, delayed because our maintenance team needed to evaluate a brake issue. It is expected to arrive at 09:08 AM. We're sorry for this inconvenience. Your estimated departure time is 10:30 AM, arriving in San Francisco at 01:23 PM.

ETA: We arrived at 13:19pm ultimately. Not too bad given my recent adventure

Oh, how long were you stranded in BGR?

So I wonder if in Unitedspeak "scheduling issue" means "crew sickness" or similar crew issues.
Shouldn't this be a "staffing issue" and not a "Scheduling Issue" ? I'm sure the pilot was scheduled to operate the flight.

UA18 delayed 2 hours MXP-EWR due to mx on inbound plane causing a swap. Called to have them put me on LH to get home earlier and told they can’t do it since I’m on a C ticket.

It's what the app described it as when the delay occurred, and what their letter in response to my claim for EC261 compensation stated. Perhaps they think that "scheduling" issue gives them an out? I have no clue as they have had the "letter of intent before court action" and we will see where that heads.

While a pilot being sick might not be a "scheduling issue", the inability to schedule another pilot to cover that (reserve, fly one in, etc.) is a scheduling issue. I think anything that goes through the crew scheduling people gets marked as "crew scheduling", regardless of whether they just don't have enough pilots, don't have reserves at that station, or already used the reserves on another flight.

While definitely inconvenient, I had expected to be a longer delay in such a situation - assuming they had to fly a new crew up to BGR;
maybe UA was able to proactively plan on that. ....

As the only Bangor I knew of was in Wales, you can probably guess that I have zero clue as to the logistics of that! But I guess they had ~10 hours to arrange it. I have no clue as to the intricacies of United logistics (I'm not sure they do at times either) but I think the call went out for a flight crew and the most miserable, don't want to be here, cabin crew possible and we got there in the end. The annoyance for me was that we landed at SFO just in time for the evening commute and so got stuck in traffic heading to the south bay. But I did get to say I have been to Maine albeit my feet never touched the ground!

UA52 (IAD-ZRH) today (3/17) delayed 5 hours (and rolling) due to engine MX. Part had to come from EWR.
