Got to see the brand new 78J ship #1002 in Dec at IAD. Reminded me of seeing the 764 (stretch) for the first time relative to the 762/3 since we usually see the 788 at IAD.

B78X is the ICAO code for the 787-10. 78J is the IATA code.

Bunky explained his reasoning for going with 78X in the 2018 fleet thread.

Any plans to scimitar the sUA birds, since they only run TCON surely the fuel savings would be recuperated, or will they be first to leave after Max 10s take over?

Maybe the difference between scimitar and winglets they have on isn't significant enough?

Well that depends on your definition. 737s have split scimitars while 757s have scimitars, which I believe are a little different from winglets / sharklets (on Airbii).

Unless you speak of the original wing on 757, but I have not seen any like that in United livery, though I don't travel nearly as much as I used to, so it's possible I just missed them.

I realize it's a small photo, but notice the little thing at the very tip of the winglet - that is not the same as the winglets that Boeing install on new equipment.

My educated guess is that the 757 wing is not strong enough to add the bottom rake, but I'm no expert, so it's just a guess.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime it.

Sorry I meant putting scimitars on the 15 sUA 752s

I have edited my original post.

73G:
N16713 sked to exit SFO 2799/4Jan in GUM configuration. Now GUM has 3 73Gs. Usually 3 or 4 units in GUM and N17730 in SFO now could be the 4th 73G to replace a couple units that were moved back to Domestic service for corrosion prevention.

39M
N37510 B1 3Jan .... Finally...
N27511, which was 22 frames behind it, is ready for delivery.

I don't think Delta was interested in scimitar tips for their PW-powered 752s (DAL hasn't retrofit its 737-700/800s with the split-scimitars, either) and United's potential order for 15 shipsets wouldn't be enough to make the investment in a STC economical for APB. On the other hand, UA's 41 RR-powered 752s comprised of a sufficiently large order that a STC was worthwhile. Icelandair is the only other customer I am aware of, as they have a large fleet of 752s with RB211 engines.

It's unfortunate, because UA's current mission profile for the 757-222 fleet is ideal for the incremental fuel efficiency gain the scimitar tips provide, most noticeable on longer hauls.

I am traveling from EWR to Del on United on a 777; the flight still has the 2-2-2 configuration. Was wondering if anyone knew when / if this flight would get the new Polaris configuration.

That route has been officially converted to the new Polaris config and it hasn't been announced. I've been watching it the last few days and it's shown 2-2-2 up till departure, so last second swaps don't seem common.

The 77W is flying EWR-BOM, so if you can switch, that's a guaranteed new Polaris seat.

Sorry, do you mean has not been. I have been watching as well. My trip isn't until May 7th so I am hopeful. Don't understand why it is not a priority given it is over a 14 hour flight.

UA82/83 EWR-DEL will not be a guaranteed new Polaris seats/Premium Plus route - see the following press release for the routes with the new seats by May 2019: https://hub.united.com/united-announ...621985755.html

That being said, there may be a slim possiblity you may get a retrofitted aircraft but highly unlikely as it seems like the pmCO 772 have not gone in for the new seats yet. Also, the pmCO 772 is a very capable aircraft so no issues taking on EWR-DEL.

Thanks everyone, this will be a big disappointment given this is one of their longest flights.

That is fascinating - the frame is exactly the same (one would assume), but the same wingtip would have to be certified for a different engine?

Is the housing for the engine different?

I realize we are dealing with safety for hundreds of people, but still .....

Oh, the Gov't of USofA is also a customer - I've seen the plane myself.

And yes, while I have not seen it, there are photos of 753 as well.
