Platinum Amex Fee credit... Is wifi reimbursed?

Is it only reimbursed if purchased in advance on the flight? In the past, I've bought wifi on board and have not been given the credit, because the charge has not been directly from United.

If you are on a GoGo-equipped pland (sUA 752 or some UAX), it's not charged by UA. Most other ML planes are.
