Are Upgrades Getting Easier on UA?

Upgraded today. One at OLCI SAN-SFO so do not appear on the UG list and the second I appear on the list but upgraded within a couple of minutes of OLCI: SFO-YVR. Was surprised, and delighted, as thought it was a very busy day for travel. Used miles for the upgrade as ran out of GPUs and RPUs.
Only one flight did not make the upgrade this year (2018) and have applied the GPU to a flight in March. Obviously YMMV.
