So I've never seen this seat map before for the 777. I think they changed planes last minute as I saw my seat changed. I originally was in second row of economy plus (row 20), but now the second row is 21. Also it seems like the first 3 rows have C blocked. What's the deal?

That’s how the premium economy configuration is displayed. If you get lucky and both your airplane and seat assignment stick...

You are getting a free preview of the Premium Plus seat, but the regular Economy service.

United has been selling Premium Plus fare since 3 Dec 2018 for travel after 30 March 2019.
Premium Plus Fare in GDS (for sale starting 3 Dec 2018, travel after 30 March 2019)

They can’t convert the fleet overnight, so they’ve started retrofitting planes a few months in advance of the official rollout.

This plane has both premium economy and economy plus. The former is in rows 20-22, with the 2-4-2 configuration, but (for now) marked as economy plus; the latter begins in row 30, with the 3-4-3 configuration.

Nice, didn't know they started using these new configs already. Since it's not official launch, I'm guessing there's no amenity kits, pillows, or blankets?

you get the better seat, but otherwise you get what you pay for ... E+ service.

Correct. You’ll get economy service (tiny flimsy pillow, wafer thin blanket, standard economy food, pay for spirits). When the flights become P+ all that is substantially upgraded.

And as more retrofits are completed after the P+ launch (772 and 17 of the 763) they’ll start flying non P+ routes as well (until the next P+ wave is launched) so there will be more surprise and delights for those who nab the front rows of E+. Just keep watching the seat map like a hawk, especially in the days before your flights.

The info on UA.com is incorrect. The plane is a 77W with PE: N2135U.

Far north route SFO-TPE, well above the Aleutians. Must be strong jet stream.
