To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to
MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.
Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.
Definitions
BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.
The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.
Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using
PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS
Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.
As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.
One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.
rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

2019 YTD is much higher spend. 76k PQD and 173k PQM.
I think they are decoupled. As in, I think what I received was a 'standard' mid-year invite (recognizing those aren't very standard), and had nothing to do with or any relation to the appeal I requested.

2018 was a lighter year for me (relative to last 3 years) - 27k PQD, 130k PQM. Prior years were in the 30's spend wise and 200k+ PQM
2019 YTD is much higher spend. 76k PQD and 173k PQM.

Booked travel through July 1st (UK & Hong Kong) has me at 129,000 PQM and $31,500 PQD… I’ll re-qualify for 1K no problem. Plus I still have one more LHR trip to book in early July, which will put me around ~$36,000 PQD (all UA Metal). I also just learned that I might be going to Barcelona in the next few weeks... that would put me at least in the low $40’s. Not sure what the rest of the year holds yet.
Wondering what the PQD requirement for GS is being TPA-based?? Thoughts?
Previous year spend is $21,000 in 2017 and $24,000 in 2018… so upward trend over 3 years. I’m guessing I’ll have at least $45,000 PQD by the end of the year.

Booked travel now has me at $42,754 through October 1st, I have one (at least) TPA-LHR trip which I'm guessing will be ~$5,000 that I'm about to book which puts me at $47,700, so I'm feeling pretty good. This is still mostly Premium cabin fares, all the international is Premium.
I'll probably add a domestic trip or two, maybe $1,000 total…
I'm thinking I'll do a trip to Asia for vacation at the end of the year (HKG, BKK, SIN, KUL, etc.) which is minimum $5,500 - putting me around $55,000… rough math.
I’ve got nearly 500,000 Award Miles from my Chase Explorer Card, and thinking I’ll burn those miles to pay for the ticket (possibly horrible use of miles, but given the devaluation and the fact I rarely use them… anyway…). Question, if I use miles to pay for tickets through my chase card (not an award ticket, or miles & copay) but the feature that let's me use miles to pay for tickets, does that spend count towards PQD? Would doing that hurt my chances for GS?

Tickets purchased through the Chase UR portal are ordinary cash tickets with a [Chase central] card tendered for them. Except the very rare reported instances of BULK fares, they earn PQD and are otherwise identical to regular tickets.

I think what you are describing is buying tickets through the Chase portal, not directly through United, right?

Unless things have changed recently, shouldn't hurt GS chanes since the pay with miles feature gives you a statement credit after the fact.

I think you are talking about the Chase "Choices" program which is pretty old. I still use this all the time (buy the ticket and then request a statement credit at $0.01/mile). I know some people think it is a bad use of miles but I have often found situations where that cost in miles is basically the same or even a little less than the cost in miles of an award ticket and has the huge benefit of being a revenue ticket and counting toward my status/spend. If I am understanding your question correctly then absolutely this spend counts toward PQD. I do this at least 2-3 times a year.

@:-) Depending on the UR card you have, booking via the UR portal could allow you to redeem points for up to 1.5c/ea vs. the 1.0c /ea one gets when used as a statement credit. Tickets purchased this way are mileage earning and if issued
