Probably less than a year, barring another pandemic, but the new club is something like 3x the space of the C-1 club. Any way you slice it, this is an improvement.

I won't be at the event tomorrow, and I don't why I am, but I'm legitimately excited to see people's reactions tomorrow. It'll really show if UA is committed to a premium club experience going forward or if (as it has been for a while across most of their products) just all talk. Of course, the other part of it is whether what they show tomorrow actually sticks around in that form or gets "enhanced".

I was going to fly May 18 but wound up moving to May 17. Obviously if I hadn't changed my flight, the new club would have opened on May 19, so you May 18 travelers are welcome for my service.

I arrived at 123 tonight and took a quick stroll past the new club area, and it does not at all look ready to open! Construction partitions and sheeting are still up all over, and what appears to be an entryway to the club is still being worked on. Hopefully a lot of progress is made in 24 hours!

On the other hand, seating areas in the main part of the lounge appear to be ready for action (from the ramp side). Im looking forward to seeing the final product I hesitate to admit my expectations are sort of high well see how it stacks up!

A New EWR C124 UC - preview 12 May, opening 18 May 2022 has been created to discuss the actual new space
Will leave this thread open for a bit more as the new UA is not quite yet open.
Use to new thread to post preview pics or ask questions of the new space.

This thread's title is broader than simply the new C124 club. With the indicated closure and rebuild of C74 and demo/build of A clubs, would think this thread will continue to be relevant for a couple of years.

and to that point

- when this club opens, the C-1 club will close for a full-gut renovation that should last about a year to a year and a half. When it reopens, it will have a similar design to this club, though a bit smaller at 17,000sf
- the new A club is under development, but is likely going to open late 2022 or early 2023. The lounge will be 12,500sf (8000sf originally, plus 4500sf from Air Canada) and feature a terrace similar to the United Club at LGA
- New A will be mostly mainline with an O&D focus. There are a few gates that will be widebody-capable. United will have 10 preferential-use gates and access to as many as 6 more on a common-use basis
- The east/odd side of C-2 will be converted to regional gates
.
Maybe a recast as "future EWR UC space enhancements"?
