Consolas Font Now Being Used for Confirmation Number

United is now using Consolas font to display confirmation number on the View Current Reservation page. Consolas is a monospaced (non-proportional) typeface which lessens visual confusion between the number 1 and the letter I, or the number 0 and the letter O. It's a change that is welcomed by this stable genius.

Is that what AA uses? It's weird when I clicked on the wiki link, I immediately thought it looked like what I see on AA physical passes.

Good for readability, but it shows my PNR a lot smaller than other relevant text near it...

Do airlines use both O and 0 in locator numbers? It's very hard to distinguish (and I actually do look carefully enough), yet I've never had a problem typing 0 when such appears - perhaps they treat either O or 0 interchangably?

Yes, they do use 0 and O. (At least UA). They're not interchangeable haha, I've learned the hard way once.

I do not believe this is correct. I think UA only uses 0 (numeric) and not O (alpha) for record locators.

I thought you might be correct, but I searched my email and did find one with O (alpha) from November of last year. Many more 0 (numeric) though.

I just looked at my reservation for Sunday, and it has both a 0 and an O in it. I appreciate the change in font. It makes it clear.

They like using the letter O because its phonetic equivalent is Oscar.

The quick Consolas font jumped over the lazy serif font.

But it can be a bit small to easily read.

I agree. It's a poorly designed font.

i'm for the change. it's one of many recently introduced to sites i frequent. amazon is experimenting with a new typeface with serifs (they call it "bookerly"), and i even had google desktop search results load today in the typeface that has been introduced to their maps app for android.
