Major differences between 1K and Plat (as of 12/01/2017)
1Ks
  • Earning initially 2 additional RPUs and 6 GPUs (can earn more)
  • Priority for premium cabin meal choices
  • Free drink and food item if in economy on North American flights
  • Higher waitlist priority for upgrades,
  • Waitlisting for Instant Upgrades if on Y/B/M fares (for CPU eligible flights) and clears into PN
  • No close in 60 day change fees for awards
  • Higher earning rate for RDMs (11 vs 9)
  • While part of BG1, 1Ks can pre-board after GSs and families with a child 2 or younger [[i]note: Starting Sept 18, 2018, 1Ks are in a "preboarding" group after GS and other special needs pax instead of BG1; Plat remains in BG1, which also includes Gold and First/Biz pax without status to preboard]
  • 1K 1-call and 1Kvoice email address customer service
One consideration and "advantage" of Plat is it is the highest level that qualifies for PQD credit card waiver

A list of differences is available here: Premier benefits chart

Premier Accelerator (purchased PQMs) post based on the date purchased, not the date of the flight.

Read about the purchase process in Consolidated Award / Premier Accelerator questions, especially the wiki (top post)

Recent reports (for some) in United Airlines Award/Premier Accelerator Rates [2018] are suprizing reasonable. Could change any time.

re-qual q

~10,500 PQM short and nearly $3,000 short to re-qual for 1K.

1. Worth a mileage run?
2. Found a flight on Avianca in Business class, any idea is $1,600 fare on AV in Biz will translate to ~$1,600.00 on UA?

No PQDs on partner airlines unless you can ticket it on United. Try a search on united.com and see what comes up.

I ran last year to close roughly that deficit and am pretty happy about my decision. But I've used 5 of my GPUs to save at least $4,000 over what well-researched revenue tickets would have cost. Although, heck, I'm sort of sad right now that I'm not about to go take a quick, dumb trip somewhere for fun.

Note that Hawaii is about the correct distance away from most parts of the US, if you are so inclined (I did OGG)

Congratulations. 1K has significant differences to Platinum.

1. Pre-board after families with children under two but before BG1
2. 6 GPUs (major benefit in my mind).
3. Free drink and free meal when sitting E/E+. Food is often better than that offered in FC.
4. No fees on redeposit/change of award tickets
5. Access to E+ at time of booking
6. Access to former GFL seats on three cabin aircraft while Polaris hard product is rolled out.

Am sure there are other benefits but these are the ones that come to mind.

Agree with the others, but there's no difference in the E+ benefit between Platinum and 1K.

Oh I was not aware that was a benefit for Platinum. Good to know for when I drop from 1K in 2020.

Even Golds can choose an E+ seat at booking.

Within 60 days or under. It's free for Plat 2 months out when making changes.

The wiki of this thread has a few more items for 1k vs Plat.
Such as
  • Priority for business / first cabin meals
  • Higher waitlist priority
  • Higher RDM multiplier
  • Higher priority for customer service
  • Access to PN for Instant Upgrades (CPU flights)
  • ...

The Access to former GF seat will just for a few more months as those seats are being removed at an increased rate,
