As this is the United forum. we discuss what UA does, how it might impact our UA travel or other UA related issues. The discussion of the large context is an OMNI issue and outside the scope of this forum. One can be yea or nay on UA actions but let's stay within the UA forum's scope

I assume they have some patterns they look for to stop child/human trafficking. This might look similar. Also, government fare booked for a child would perhaps stick out?

Bravo!! AA and UA. As others have said above this isn't about politics, but the very moral core of this nation.

+1 now all the southwest key folks will not be GS and clog up boarding. Key word here is "suggest" but in reality united will still accept these tickets. My home airport was/is a loading zone for these children being escorted so I'll beleive it it when I see it! Oh and it was happening way before the current administration so why is united only changing their stance now? (My comments pertain to children I know were being escorted via united in the last 4 years).

Can they be forced to sell seats to the federal government? I doubt it.

He is standing up for what's right - you should consider doing the same.

maybe if they’re lucky a family member might gift them a GPU, assuming the government books them into a GPU-able fare class. Then they’ll get to experience Polaris seats that many full-J passengers have only dreamed of.

Under this statement United appears to be against transporting minors to reunite them with their parents. I guess UA thinks they should take the bus or whatever.

Kneejerk response to AA, IMO. Delta had a more thought out response.

I completely disagree with separating children from their families and think this whole situation is disgusting, I am sure these children are extremely happy they don't have to be tormented further than they already are by flying on a UA aircraft or flying with UA crew. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Children previously transported by UA / AA / etc presumably would have been genuinely unaccompanied minors. This response from UA is engendered by the recent change in government policy that creates unaccompanied minors by universally prosecuting parents. I.e. the children that the government seeks to have transported now are likely unaccompanied because of intentional government action that separates children from parents. United and the others do not want to be seen participating in that process.

Won't comment on the efficacy / timeliness or lack thereof.

DHS spokespersons these days make Smisek appear honest by comparison The United statement was clear which aspects they take issue with. Reunification isn’t it.
