Fluctuations in C inventory

I have noticed that on some flights C inventory seems to disappear, leaving only J inventory, and then reappear a few days later. One observed pattern, for example, was C6 - C0 - C3 - C0 - C5 with J9 the entire time. I assume this is one of the secrets of revenue management but it seems strange because in my experience once a regular economy fare class goes to zero it doesn't come back to life later. Does anyone have any insights?

-- Cancellations

-- Sales slope moving in / out of expected zone. No selling as fast as expected and then selling as expected.

That's not my experience. I commonly see UA adjust fare buckets up and down in Y also.

Not my experience at all. Here's a very recent one with SFO-HKG:

Day 1: V9W9S0 on outbound, Q9V9W0 on return. W/V priced at $1218.
Day 2: V9W0 on outbound, Q9V0 on return. V/Q priced at $1578. I bought the ticket (return was R2 and I didn't want to lose it).
Day 3: Back to Day 1 inventory (V9W9S0 on outbound, Q9V9W0 on return). W/V back to $1218. Cancelled ticket purchased day before, bought a new one for $1218, saving $360.

+1. Standard mix of over-sensitive triggers and the good old "drop a hook in the water, see what bites" strategy.
