Really good Polaris Sale EWR to HKG around $3K R/T

Just noticed an excellent business class sale (as low as $3,158 R/T) available almost every day beginning tomorrow until December 7th. No minimum stay appears necessary and I found it is available on the non stop, via ORD and SFO. Considering the fare has been running double that in recent weeks, I would imagine reissuing existing reservations is an option for many.

Doesn't appear available for passengers originating in Chicago or SF.

I haven't seen a fare this low between these cities in a long time. Probably won't last more than a few days, if that much.

I don't know about the exact city pair, but East Coast to Asia for $2k even has been pretty common over the last 12 months.

Correct, but it is this specific city pair that makes it so unusual. Sure, if you want to go to Korea or Taiwan you can find discounted P fares. United has generally walled off the premium HKG market from deep discounts. What makes it especially unusual is that it is available beginning as early as tomorrow and has availability almost every day for the next six months.

EWR-HKG-EWR non-stop for $3158 is pretty impressive.

I've also been seeing considerably lower fares East Coast to PEK, but nothing non-stop, and nothing originating out of EWR itself.

Specifically: BDL-PEK r/t can be had for ~$2200..

If it wasn't for the fact that I'm already upgraded in both directions for a November 2018 trip to HKG and that I don't need the PQMs or PQDs to reach 1K, I would have considered upfaring my W fare to this P fare. It's available from my small city close to ORD (but as you say not originating in ORD). It's about $300 cheaper than the P fare I paid for a November 2017 trip to HKG.

I checked some airports near ORD: P fare of $3276 R/T is available from AZO, CMI, FWA, IND, PIA, SBN. But not available from MSN, MKE (at least for the dates I checked).

May be Cathy’s new HK to DC services in the fall is addiing excessive capacity.

Ack it is the crappy 777-200 Polaris ( 2-2-2 ) versus the 777-300ER much nicer Polaris ( 1-2-1 ).

Good pricing though.

I prefer the pmCO 2-2-2 seating to the 1-2-1 seating, provided that there's a center column seat available -- and I say this as a window seat guy. The 1-2-1 is tight. Either is preferable to the pmUA 2-4-2 layout, of course.

Yeah that 2-4-2 layout is a decent economy seat ;-)

LOL. I'm not allowed a difference of opinion? :)

It's nice to have both aisle access and the window, but there's a reason UA has been able to get so many seats onto these planes. The 2-2-2 layouts -- especially on the 777 -- are lower density.

Perhaps but I find the 2-2-2 plain uncomfortable - and I’m sitting in one now. I plain don’t like angled seats and, on the sCO version, there’s nowhere for your feet.

Tell you the truth: out of ORD, I'm so used to the pmUA 2-4-2 layout and my preferred seat (6J) that when my plane was switched to the 1-2-1 and I got an odd window seat, I disliked it. I was wondering how USAirways managed to have such a good 1-2-1 layout in its Envoy Class on the A332 or A333 where it was so comfortable.

Good that for our EWR-HKG, on the 2-2-2 we managed to get two seats in the center column. But since we usually fly out of ORD and more of our 772s will be reconfigured to 1-2-1, next time we get one of those, I will try an even number window seat. Naturally, even the odd window seat will be better than being stuck in a 3-4-3 Economy seat.

BOS - PEK has been on sale for $2k on and off for a while. You can connect via SFO and catch the 752 and 77W for a lie flat experience for the entire the entire itinerary.

Cheers. Forgot about that one. I have BOS-PEK returning PEK-AVP (via ORD) booked for October for $2635.
