Access to Polaris lounges (source):
update 29 Sept 2017, effective 1 Oct, 2017
Departure: The airport you are leaving on an international J/F flight* from, i.e. EWR-ORD-NRT
Connecting: The airport to or from which you have a short-haul flight to connect to a longer flight, i.e. EWR-ORD-NRT or NRT-ORD-EWR
Arrival: The airport you arrive at after your long-haul flight, i.e. EWR-ORD-NRT
Hours- 4:30a - 10:45p
*Currently it appears that any departing international flight on an *A partner qualifies (except AC operated transborder flights ), but only United flights with the premium cabin class listed as 'Polaris Business' or 'Polaris First' will qualify for entrance after arriving off a United Polaris flight.
UA premium cabin flights not marketed as Polaris, such as Domestic First or International Business (Canada, Mexico, Caribbean ... ) are not eligible for Polaris lounge access.

Seems odd for a product aimed at business travelers not to accommodate this need.

I am pretty surprised that none of the Polaris lounges have any type of phone booths or similar area for passengers to discretely take calls without disturbing overall lounge vibe. They are a standard in the new United Clubs, at least at the hub locations.

I'd go in the phone booth just to get away from the noise, but then it stars to feel claustrophobic. After all, I'm about to be boxed into a plane for several hours.

Currently sitting in the EWR Polaris lounge and its been a real challenge to be positive tonight - I arrived at 4pm - put my name on the list for the restaurant and was seated at 5pm - multiple tables left lounge after not getting any food before their flight - and our food took an hour for a burger and salad - we tried the buffet but most food was empty while thenstaff huddled in the corners on their phones - I realize that finding good people is hard - but this was pathetic even for UA - they arent even trying any more!
When I entered I asked why I needed to show my passport after just clearing security and a green light-as a GS - she told me it was to make sure I didnt lose my passport in the 100 feet from security - what a joke lol.
The other major post Covid change - bar staff are actively soliciting tips - big ones too - its sad. I watched a bartender take a $20 form a woman who expected change for her two drinks - he grabbed the $20 and walked away.
