Just saw this (note that it will be linked to certain business class fares):

United Airlines and The Private Suite Create a New Luxury Experience at Los Angeles International Airport - May 22, 2018United Airlines and The Private Suite Create a New Luxury Experience at Los Angeles International Airport

United customers who purchase access can now enter LAX through a gated private terminal, avoid all lines and traffic, and be driven across the tarmac directly to their aircraftMay 22, 2018

LOS ANGELES, May 22, 2018 /

PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines and The Private Suite today announced a new relationship, offering the airline's customers access to a newly built, private terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Customers who purchase access will enjoy private and personalized check-in and baggage handling as well as private screening by Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers. United customers using the new terminal will be driven across the airfield in BMW 7-Series sedans directly to their aircraft. The United-branded lounge at the new terminal includes individual suites and restrooms and features a full bar and top-tier food service.

Access to The Private Suite will be included in certain business-class fares. United has negotiated a highly preferential rate for use of the exclusive service. The Private Suite experience will initially be available through select corporate travel booking desks and travel agents, and later available for purchase on united.com or through the United app as part of a premium-cabin ticket fare.

United customers flying to or from New York/Newark; Aspen, Colorado; Hawaii; London Heathrow; Los Cabos, Mexico; Melbourne and Sydney, Australia; Shanghai; Singapore; and Tokyo Narita who purchase this service will have access to the exclusive co-branded lounge at The Private Suite's terminal on the LAX airfield. Customers arriving from overseas will be met at the aircraft and escorted to private customs and immigration processing. A Private Suite logistics team of eight people is assigned to each booking, ensuring a seamless airport experience without traffic, lines or wait time.

"We are excited to offer this new experience for our customers who are seeking additional efficiency, comfort, privacy and the ultimate service during their travels," said Janet Lamkin, President, California, for United Airlines. "The partnership with The Private Suite affords our customers the opportunity to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience that makes travel through LAX the best in class. As California's global airline, our customers expect the best, and United is delivering on that promise."

The Private Suite is owned and operated by Gavin de Becker & Associates, a world-renowned consulting and service firm that handles logistics and protection for many of the world's most prominent people.

"United has created an exceptional service opportunity for its customers, and we're excited to be part of something that's never before existed in commercial air travel," said Joshua Gausman, Co-Founder of The Private Suite.

Wait - is it "included in certain business class fares" or "available for purchase during the booking process"? Hardly the same thing! How many takers are they really expecting to get at those prices? This sounds pretty much like the service that is included at FRA/MUC with LH F tickets.

My read is that they will have certain business class fares with a Q suffix that reflects the additional charge for the Private Suite, so it's actually built into the fare.

And it's LAX - I bet they'll have takers.

Q is the fare construction code for miscellaneous carrier surcharges. Given that it sounds like these fares can only be purchased by contacting UA directly, I'm guessing it's a flat fee addition to any premium cabin fare on the select routes, but they can write the rules however they want.

A seriously steep fee for ground services, but I can see some celebrities doing it rather than rubbing shoulders with the commoners in the UC. It's still a heck of a lot cheaper than flying private.

It can be booked by agencies via the various GDS'es, and corporate discounts apply, so it starts to not be quite so crazy...

I have never understood why USCBP and the TSA buy into this stuff.

Obviously there are VIP's who need to be screened separately for security reasons, but "you are rich so you get to buy your way out of standing in lines", with the money going to a private company (not the government), seems to me as if it just got enacted without anyone even thinking whether the government should be involved in this sort of thing.

Among other things, it makes it more likely that the government will impose onerous and invasive procedures for ordinary travelers if rich people are exempted.
notquiteaff and jcturnbull like this.

Even with that, I'll still keep my AS F seat on SNA-SJD...far more exclusive to have that line.

While I wouldn't pay what looks like a minimum of $1450 for international if I read that correctly (I assume RT); I do like the private customs and passport control having just waited at SFO for almost an hour to get through passport control and customs (still waiting for Global Entry interview)! They had ONE customs and border agent at the head of the line, appalling!

Many countries' major international airports provide similar services where it makes economic sense (e.g., London, Munich, Singapore, etc.).

I bet TSA loves this in LAX, because celebrities in airports are often disruptive due to crowds, pictures, etc., and that sort of distraction can be dangerous in a security situation.

Since the upcharge is a Q surcharge, this would make the fee PQD-eligible?
