So many CRJ-200s

I already know the answer, its just a change to the regional carrier at CMH. However, I really cannot stand all the starts to my trips happen on these tiny planes... I find myself longing for a 145... It really seems that since January the schedules out of CMH to IAD, ORD and EWR have all been cut back, I dont have hard evidence of this, just my feel. I
I am in that trap of too many miles on United to feel good about switching to something else and they offer my best routes to Asia and Australia.

Just had to vent.

Cleveland is enjoying a resurgence in the CRJ-200s as well. Easily the worst plane in the fleet. I will take a LONG layover in ORD vs flying one of those planes. Yes, it's a short flight but if there is a ground hold or anything to extend sitting in the aircraft, it becomes extremely uncomfortable.

There are now CRJ-200s in the IAD-ORD schedule. I guess both of those are “secondary” markets now...

Same in COS, a greater percentage of flights are now on the CRJ-200. Demand is sky high, with flights out of COS often $400 more than driving to DEN, and I seem to recall UA talking about upgauging as much as possible, but COS has once again been screwed by UA with their love affair with the CRJ-200.

agreed cospilot!!!, couple of things come to mind here, first scott kirby is in love with the rj, also skywest has a maintenance base here in the springs and with the reduction of the 700 flying here the only option is to put more 200s in the schedule along with additional trans states flying into cos as well, neighbor is a mainline pilot and he claims the company wants to reverse course on more mainline flying and will probably throw more cash at the group in the now ongoing negotiations to put more express in the system schedule, i have been doing quite abit work in toronto and the 700s that ply the denver toronto route can be a pita on the west bound legs sometimes, AC has been my go to with the 190 now.

If the schedule is maintained, this will be the busiest year since the merger for the CRJ2 at UA.

Code:
 year | equip | flights | flight_hours
------+-------+---------+--------------
 2018 | CRJ | 261180 | 399476
 2017 | CRJ | 155131 | 241743
 2016 | CRJ | 158052 | 248426
 2015 | CRJ | 164635 | 257637
 2014 | CRJ | 201211 | 336802
 2013 | CRJ | 197312 | 333752
 2012 | CRJ | 187516 | 311596
edit: ugh, this scroll bars on short tables are getting annoying fast

I totally get the vent. Miserable airplanes, which United seems to have a love affair with.

The CR2s infested DAY some time ago, and I have been using CVG since to avoid them. Ended up with cheaper fares to boot.

Wow. Didn't realize they were on hub-to-hub flights as well. Sort of makes Kirby a fib-telling shill... No shock.

There's a firm plan to add 40 CR2s to the 85 that were operated for UX at 12/31/17.

I loathe these planes. Give me a 145 any day of the week instead.

Preferably, give me a real plane. Nothing like flying C from PEK-IAD then getting into a lovely coach seat for the last 2 hours home.

I may be the only person who will ever say this, but I really prefer the Devils Chariot over the 145 (Unless I get 18A). I am on it tomorrow night DEN-PSC. I have 1B, which I like, being that close to the FA gives me some comfort. However, it is a 2:45 flight, which sucks on either a 200 or 145.

ugh, its pretty friggin awful.

They went from dumping the 50 seaters (Cr2 and 145s) to adding them up the wazoo. Presumably they got super duper cheap lease rates since nobody else wants to fly these dumpy things and now we're all stuck with them

of course, its definitely going to result in fewer bookings on the itins that would have them.

Great job Kirby, the E145 is heaven compared to the CRJ-200.

Maybe I should write to UA to thank them for pricing me out of flying out of my small city. For my next 3 international flights, I will have the opportunity to avoid the CR2s. Economy Class to Europe, they want $1200 more for the roundtrip than flying from ORD. Polaris Business Class to Asia, they want $3500 more for the roundtrip than flying from ORD.

Only problem is that the alternative is not so good. Driving to ORD from the South is difficult. Crazy traffic. Driving South from ORD after 10-16 hours flights is not something I'm comfortable with. Public transportation is not reliable.

So, now, I wish I could get on a CR2.

It's bad for sure. As someone mentoned above, there are now CR2's operating some IAD-ORD flights.

E145 is so much better, 18A is fine for a regional flight and I can deal with it up to 2 hours. CR2 and I will probably only take it if it's a 45 min flight max.
