Which is still pretty damn generous, I must say.

Been a while since I checked, I think a couple years ago it was 3x 23kg, and even that 3rd piece was more than I would expect compared to the +1 piece or additional weight. most airlines give.

I tried searching but I couldn't find anything - do UA Gold/*A Gold get any benefits aside from the official published *A Gold benefits when flying Air Canada?

I booked a flight back when I had no status on ua.com and advanced seat selection had a price - now I just checked again since there was a schedule change and suddenly all seat selection is free - even preferred seats. By now I have reached UA Gold.

Is this the exception or the norm, do UA Golds and/or all *A Gold get free advanced seat selection on AC flights? For reference, this is a Y flight YVR-EWR as part of a TATL trip.

EDIT: Nevermind - I was automatically assigned a seat and all seat changes show as "complimentary" when I look at the seatmap, but if I select a seat and confirm, the menu suddenly prompts me to pay for it. I'll chalk it down as AC IT error.

I have never had free seat selection or been upgraded by AC. Don't fly them much either.

Just to note (thread is on AC's forum) that as of tickets after September 25th, this benefit for *G is now reduced to one extra bag at 50 lbs.

I received an Op-Up to business class last week as UA*G. Granted, it was an one hour flight from YUL-LGA, and the GA did warn me that they may not have enough meals for everyone, it was still nice nonetheless.

I also found that occasionally on codeshare flights with W fare or higher, you can pick a preferred seat at the airport kiosk without addition upcharge.

I think I've been op-upped on AC more than I've been EUA'd on United in the past 2 years.

Agreed. In the last year, we've been op-upped YYZ-YUL, YUL-YHZ, and even more shockingly LHR-YYZ on an award ticket booked with United miles. All as UA *G

As others mentioned, a few opups on short hauls, and even two on longhauls.
Cant complain.

Apart from that, Air Canada is a very miserable experience, especially in Y, and there are zero benefits of star gold on board.

I flew AC a ton as a *G. Their lounges are far better than United's, but for specific benefits it's few and far between. I got several transcon op-up's last year, but they were all on very expensive tickets purchased last minute.

I got 0 op-up's on any routes last year (all NA). As such, I boarded with group (zone?) 2 and tried very hard to sleep through all my AC flights.

Noob here: How to use United status when booking with Air Canada?

I have the Premier Silver status with United and will be booking a Air Canada flight directly through the Air Canada website. Is there anyway for me to use my united status while booking my trip with Air Canada? I want to use status since I can get 1 checked bag for free as a Premier Silver member.

When entering your personal information, you will be asked if you wish to credit to a particular frequent flyer program, just enter you UA MP account and AC you learn of your status from that.

Does AC offer bag waivers for *S??

No - https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-...olicy-g-s.html

I don't believe that's a Star Alliance Silver benefit.
