Corporate Discounts

Hey,

how does one go about getting a Corporate discount-- i read somewhere they can be 20-60% off J pricing.

We do about $100k a year in TPAC travel and a ton of domestic travel as well.

Ideally we wouldn't have to pre-pay and would be pay as you go.

That kind of spend isn't going to be anythiig that United gives a care about. There are plenty of GS who do that much spend on their own. The big volume discounts are given to large companies who spend millions Think consulting and accounting firms that are shuttling 1,000s people all over the world daily.

These kinds of discounts are negotiated with a corporate sales rep and indeed, you would need to be looking at more like $50 million in travel in order to be getting a serious deal like that. My company has something like 25% off of full fares (and less off of lower ones) and I think we're in the single digit millions with UA.

+1 Or think high tech firms like Apple/Google, or a company like Chevron or Exxon that is shipping people all over the world in J. The deep 50-60% off discounts go to these companies.

For small/medium businesses, UA has a couple of programs with some discounts (up to 20% for premium cabins)
United (UA) Pass Plus Secure/ Flex -- Benefits, Value, Questions .... [Consolidated]

Consolidated "UA PerksPlus Program" Discussion Thread [Merged]

and on the UA site, see Business products

Bear in mind, having worked at one of those large 30k+ consulting firms, that the large discount you quoted (30%+) was typically only off of full J/F fares. It was typical that the discount off of P was ~2%, Z - 12%. C/D somewhere in between that and the full J discount. In other words, you could often get better pricing by just booking in advance, or being flexible in routing (such that you got P) on a public fare, vs the negotiated discount J/D/C fares.

Change that k to an M and they may entertain a discussion.

. . . which, if you think about it, means small and mid-size companies are subsidizing corporate behemoths. It helps them stay corporate behemoths.
