Do you guys think there will be any fanfare for the first flight? Grabbed a cheap ticket for the inaugural LAX-EWR-(DTW)only $175 . Grabbed a front row economy seat - so, hopefully that's the new product.

Ended up using an RPU, maybe theres a short window where inventory goes to R-something here today and I get lucky. I'm guessing though all the business seats go to the media and the like.

Follow up: OMAAT is flat wrong. Per UA, the 781 will have 21 P+ and 54 E+

I suspect reducing J seats to make room for P+ on the 789/8 as a possibility based on the 787-10 configuration.

I also wonder whether UA will change its planned 50/seat Polaris business cabin to make room for P+ on the 772........
Flew on a 772 last night with 50 J Polaris seats plus three rows of Premium Economy. I'll put some pictures on my blog tomorrow. Let's hope that config stays...

The correct seat map is now online. Rows 20-22 are Premium Economy. For anyone that booked a regular economy seat in these rows initially, you have now been upgraded free of charge to Premium Economy! Just happened to me. Seat 22A!!!

I wonder if UA will do something special on initial flights, from LAX to EWR and from EWR to LAX, on January 7, 2019?

I would imagine that they definitely will. They had some special goodies and certificates for the inaugural 737Max9, so I would imagine this will have something as well. However, with that being said...…. The inaugural B777-300ER from EWR-SFO last year had absolutely nothing other than some balloons at the gate.

Seeing a decent amount of R availability checking various months in 2019. I plan to fly Sat June 1st (EWR-LAX), R=6 currently.

This is the real steal. While you have no recourse for a frame swap, it would require a downgauge to get bumped out of PE and you can fly it for the price of regular Economy. For an non-overnight flight, that's all I really want anyway

In a UA press release today, it states

United's first 787-10 will operate on transcontinental routes
United Airlines is the first North American carrier to operate the Boeing 787-10 aircraft. While United typically operates its widebody aircraft for international routes, it will operate its first -10 aircraft between New York/Newark and Los Angeles and San Francisco. The aircraft features 44 of United's exclusive United Polaris seats; 21 United Premium Plus seats which will initially be sold as Economy Plus; 54 Economy Plus seats; and 199 United Economy seats. The 787-10 is 18 feet longer than the 787-9 and can carry more passengers and more cargo. The 787-10 can fly up to 6,430 nautical miles, while using 20 percent less fuel than older generation airplanes. United currently operates 25 787-9 and 12 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

Of course not. They are using these birds to get FAs and pilots used to a new type. They will fly to Europe after a couple of months or so (IIRC there is a date posted somewhere).

I am booked on the inaugural flight from EWR to LAX in business, and returning the following morning in premium economy.

A little over $800 all in for both flights.

UA has a ton of capacity on these routes . . . Summer schedule they just published for EWR-SFO shows 15 daily flights, with four daily widebodies (three 772s and one 781). Looks like they're making a play to pick up market share.
