New Nonstop Route: DEN-ORF (plus 2nd daily DEN-RIC) starting 6/8/18

I was just shopping on Google Flights for my summer trip to Montana and noticed that UA has quietly introduced a new route: ORF-DEN nonstop. Looks like one flight a day, on a 319, beginning June 8 and lasting through the end of the schedule.

There will also be a second daily RIC-DEN nonstop, on a SkyWest 175, starting the same day but only seasonal. I don’t see it in September or December, checking random dates on United.com. The afternoon turn on a 319 remains year round.

A morning RIC-DEN has been on my wish list for a long time and will give DL’s morning MSP flight some much needed competition to the Mountain West.

Great additions for Central Virginia and the Tidewater!

Not something I will use being NYC-based, but nice to see!

Still waiting on the rumored new LAX international route. :D

Great news for us RIC flyers!

Now, if we could just get the E145s off IAH-RIC, one of the longest RJ routes in the US, we'd be all set. A CR7 or E175 would be a welcome change!

Yes it's a welcomed addition for RIC. Too bad it doesn't start for my upcoming trip to DEN in 2 weeks, but I can take advantage when I fly to DEN in July.

I still avoid RIC-IAH because of the E145s, especially with UA.com offering all these connections via IAH for West Coast.

It is about time for adding DEN-ORF. This will slice DL's dominance at ORF a little bit. United has added mainlines to ORF from ORD, IAD and occasionally EWR. ORF-IAH is on CR7 with one daily flight. Perhaps, one can wish for ORF-SFO in the near future.

UA is also adding DAY-IAH, apparently once daily on an ERJ-145. Details are apparently to be announced Monday.

Careful: You are more likely to have it change to a CR2.

Thanks. I hadn't heard it was quite so imminent from my DAY contacts, but has been rumored for awhile. Thank God it isn't a CR2.

Agreed. I believe RIC-IAH is currently the longest flight in the world on a 50-seat RJ. When I go to Houston I prefer to connect through ATL on Delta or Southwest.

ExpressJet probably still flies this route because of their maintenance base in RIC. Good news is, they’re slowly phasing out their ERJ-145s and selling them to CommutAir and Trans States so perhaps we will see fewer of them on RIC-IAH in due time.

Other new routes:
DEN - ATW (Appleton, WI)
DEN - HYS - SLN - ORD (Hays is not new, but Salina, KS added. This is an EAS route)
IAH - CAK (Akron, OH)
LAX - ACV (Eureka, CA)
SFO - MSN (Madison, WI)
ORD - BIS (Bismarck, ND)

It's bookable now, apparently. Comes in from IAH, RONs, and goes back out in the morning.

Hearing any other rumblings about DAY, from UA or otherwise?

Not really. I have been avoiding United at DAY recently due to all the CR2s, so not as current on the gossip.

Every so often there is talk of a mainline addition to ORD, but they have been saying it for so long now, it is not really anything I put stock in.

RIC-IAH

There is a second RIC-IAH in the afternoon. This flight seems disappeared. I booked an award ticket for RIC-IAH-YYC for early May. United switched this reservation to RIC-DEN-YYC. I guess that the second RIC-DEN frequency may compensate for the RIC-IAH cancellation.

Count yourself lucky... DEN is a more direct routing from here to Calgary anyway, and you get a larger aircraft!
