I'm trying to use 7 GPU's before the end of 2018...
When y'all say "6. Cleared at booking", does that mean that during the ticket purchasing process on United.com (via Advanced Search) that you saw a green arrow icon that you knew 100% there were GPU upgradeable/usable seats? Or does "cleared at booking" mean that you rolled the dice and requested to use a GPU and you didn't know that your flight would actually get upgraded until you had purchased (your CC had been charged) your (upgradeable) economy ticket?

I write "they" as that hasn't happened to me in a long, long time. But luckily they seems to clear days/weeks after booking on the routes I need/want.

Usual process to clear "at booking" is search for PZ space (formerly R space) -> book tickets using your preferred channel -> ticket issued -> apply GPU and upgrade is confirmed. The presence of PZ space guarantees the upgrade; there is no "lottery". If anything goes wrong, you have the 24 hour window to cancel.

Asked at check-in, and they first said it would be handled at the gate, but then called someone and cleared it right there.
I believe ALL upgrades cleared.
Interesting though: flight got progressively less full in C starting a few days before flight. Went from 42 booked down to 32 booked.

I purchased a ticket SFO/HKG for December 6-15 , 2 weeks ago, and it cleared immediately using GPU's. I just purchased 2 more tickets for the same routing for middle 3 week March - April 1 and also cleared immediately.
