Does a 1 hour flight arrival delay really need to reported? I only ask this because I haven't seen a thread for all the long haul UA flights which arrive 1 hour early or better. Honestly folks, read this thread with a grain of salt. And not the salt the airports sprinkle in weather situations.

That's a good idea. Perhaps you should start one if you think a Consolidated arrived early international flights (2018) would be of use. I can see its attraction.

Sao Paulo is hit pretty badly today...both 1/11 UA861 IAD-GRU and UA105 IAH-GRU have been postponed to a morning-departure on 1/12 (11:00 and 13:00 hours late), so UA860 on 1/12 has been postponed to a 1/13 morning departure (about 10 hours late) and my 1/12 UA105 is currently estimated delayed by 3:25 for a 3:00 departure out of GRU.

Greetings - Dirk

I can see his point though. 1 hour delay is not really a huge deal - does it merit posting here (unless among a comprehensive post about many delays at once)? It takes up some space. And this is not a place of record to register every delay, just noteable ones, do people agree? I guess it's a discussion about what the bar (hours delay) is.

I think there are a few reasons to post delays of any international flight.

One is the interdependence of inbound/outbound pairs so if the inbound gets delayed, the outbound will be delayed. Posters may only know of their flight so a post may serve to alert FTs on the outbound.

Another is UA's propensity to list a flight as "On Schedule" but you have to click through to the "Where is this aircraft coming from?" to find out that the inbound aircraft is late or, worse yet, you have to click further to find out that the A/C is a sub for another and UA really has no idea if a flight will have an on time departure.

One other is the impact on FT travellers on domestic feeder flights - if you find out that your international connection is delayed, that may or may not affect your decision making as to either staying on an existing late domestic flight, start to look for other options, etc. Here's an immediate example: United Delay Posting

And lastly, this is a way to communicate and be part of the greater FT community.

Yes I believe it does, it can affect connections. I've never heard of someone missing a connecting flight when their inbound flight arrives early.....

Re:UA949 I thought they did the redirect to get round the crew timing out and to minimize the EC261 compensation as it is easier to get folks to their final destination if the passengers are in the USA. I am surprised LHR would not have sufficient fuel (and am guessing this is the reason for the quotation marks by worldtrav).

It won't get around EC261 if it was that late at its final destination if it was "fuel".

Was SFO CBP open at 01:31? The plane was at EWR for 66 minutes. Was it empty enough they all cleared there in time?

I don't think they could clear immigration and and then re-clear security to re-board. However, there are some late flights at SFO so there could be enough CBP staff on hand to clear the passengers.

And it seems that if one missed their connection out of SFO, they were going to have to stay at the airport because it shows that no hotels were available...probably due to the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference

ETA: I wonder what GG SOS says though.

No Delays at EWR NOW ??

I'm on UA 51 tonite (EWR-MAD), despite the earlier announced fire at Terminal C, and the bad weather generally, my flight is still showing OnTime ?? My arriving plane is coming from IAH, and shows only 23 min late--- so not sure what's up. News reports mention massive delays, issues and problems, yet not one word from UA. (Obviously, I can't get through via phone to them !!) Debating canceling and attempting to rebook for tomorrow, but as stated, can't get through. Any thoughts ????

Just got through to Elite Desk and was told the transformer fire was put out and right now, NO DELAYS ???
