Not a lot of UA spare aircraft at NAN or nearby. Probably had to fly (on another carrier) parts and/or mechanic in for the repairs

Nope. I assume the closest spot for parts for a 789 would be AKL, unless Boeing keeps AOG stores there at NAN.

Not optimal for same-day reprotection out of NAN, either...

I vaguely remember that. Didn't they sometimes stop to refuel there?

UA managed to get UA/938 ORD-LHR out on time despite the blizzard... only to have it divert to EWR and cancel with mechanical issue. Those poor pax probably really thought they'd dodged the weather bullet, only to end up in EWR at 1:30am.

UA953 MUC-ORD delayed 5.5h due to late inbound

thought I dodged the Chicago weather, but I’m going to enjoy a visit to Houston instead! (Thanks to an angel of a 1K agent who preserved my upgrade when I called at 5:15am from the LIS lounge)

UA160 MUC-IAH CXL due to a bird strike on approach causing a fan blade to need replacement.

1K desk reaccomodated me on the MUC-SFO LH nonstop in C, but sadly LH won’t let me apply a GPU. And I’m missing out on 2 Polaris lounge dinners!

870 SYD-SFO delayed - lightning strike 11/28

Aeroplane number 3974 due to operate 870 SYD-SFO Wednesday Nov 28 has reportedly been struck by lightning whilst parked at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Aerodrome

STD 13.00
now suggested departure 15.45

Actual departure from SYD was five hours late at 18:00 with a SFO arrival of 11.35 just over 4 hours late - departing 5 hours late - how did this comply without the crew 'running out of hours' ?

11/27. SFO-PPT UA115 delayed 2:30 due to technical issues. This pushes back 114 (us) 2 hours making a 10:40pm departure 12:45am. Likely causing many misconnects at SFO. We just want to be home!

I’m not sure what I’d rather they say, but the texts saying “we’re sorry for the inconvenience” don’t really
cut it. Maybe “we apologize...” at least would be better

BTW this is at least the second flight in a row where the “where is his plane now” map has been broken for 115, showing the flight as never having departed.

Update. The status now says “steering issues”.

932 IAD-FRA delayed over 3 hours Thursday 29 November thanks to 106 IAD-MUC going mx and taking our plane. 989 IAD-FRA also delayed that same day - Not a good day for IAD-Germany flights.

Does anyone know why UA 871 SFO-TPE on Dec 1 was diverted to ANC?
How's the condition at ANC after the 7-magnitude earthquake?

It appears to have been a medical diversion. The airport runway had no/little damage so was reopened quickly after being checked. Reports of some damage inside of the terminal, such as cracked walls and broken light fixtures.

UA917, 2 DEC 2018, SFO-AKL diverting to CHC?

Is the weather at Auckland this morning so bad that UA917 needs to divert? FR24 shows the aircraft near Rangiora at 8,000' at 09:30.

Just curious....
