Some of these aircraft are in their mid 20s age-wise, don't most passenger jets have an average life of around 30 years ? What is UA's plan in regards to these airplanes ? Are they going to spend the money to mod into Polaris only to retire them in ~5 years ?

They've already Polarised the oldest 763s in the fleet. Word is that seven of the oldest 2-class 763s remaining (1992/93 build) will be retired rather than reconfigured.

That makes sense with all the 78X coming in - I would guess a one for one replacement. Perhaps with some 78X being added without 763 leaving (don't recall how many 78X are coming).

One VERY interesting and unexpected update this cycle:

Fleet Addition:
N4868U - A pickup from AirCap/Shaheen Air, purchased rather than leased like some of the other 319s. Per Planespotters it was delivered on 27-Nov and FlightAware still shows it at GYR. Based on Planespotters data this aircraft is in addition to the China Southern and EasyJet 319s that are scheduled to come.
All of the China Southern 319s appear to still be flying, except possibly B-6018 which has been in the shop for 2 weeks. Unsure if this is for exit prep or routine maintenance.

319:
N848UA - Confirmed exit from MIA on 7-Dec
N805UA - Scheduled entry into DLH on 16-Dec/2183

73G:
N17719 - Confirmed entry in HOU on 13-Dec

763:
N676UA - SFO as of 7-Dec/2742

764:
N67052 - Confirmed exit from SAT on 16-Dec/2762

772:
N777UA - Entered SFO on 12-Dec, no scheduled exit date.
N27015 - Entered SFO on 10-Dec, no scheduled exit date.

77W:
N2748U - Any word why it has not entered service? 1 month is an awfully long time for induction work.

One additional thought to ponder. Should we remove the 'sCO' vs. 'sUA' differentiation from the fleet site now that the FAs are integrated and purely focus on the fleet type codes?

Wait ... what

I thought the previous additions got the existing letters, i.e. UA, not U, like the new types.

The two new A320s both have NxxxxU Numbers, as does one other of the new A319s. They are using NxxxUA if the number is available, and if not getting a NxxxxU number that fits in the sequence. Agreed this addition is a surprise. Likely came on the market unexpectedly and UA scooped it up quick.

N4868U looks to be former AP-BNM.

It appears there is another...AP-BNL...possibly to become N4869U as United just reserved this N number on 27 Nov 2018; the same day they reserved N4868U. FWIW, N4867U and N4870U are not available.

Shaheen Air looks to have gone belly up so all of their aircraft look to be up for grabs. Looking at what is not already spoken for, the following aircraft are available:

A319-132s (4): AP-BNI/OE-IHF, AP-BNK/OE-IHG, AP-BNL/OE-IHI, AP-BNN/OE-IHJ.

--- AP-BNI/OE-IHF & AP-BNL/OE-IHI are already in GYR and could likely become UA. The other two are currently located in Tarbes France.

A320-232s (7): AP-BLJ/OE-IHE, AP-BLK/OE-IHA, AP-BMC/OE-IHB, AP-BMD/OE-IHH, AP-BLM/OE-IHL, AP-BLH, and AP-BLI

All but two of the A320s fit into the age range that UA typically looks at for used aircraft. Two of the A320s are just over 20 years old so they may be older than UA is willing to pick up (AP-BLH and AP-BLI)

All of the A320s except AP-BLH and AP-BLI are also sitting in France.

UPDATE:
AP-BNL is 'confirmed' UA per AirFleets.net, highly likely it receives N4869U as mentioned above.

My personal preference would be to keep the distinction where the seating configurations are markedly different, which for me means the international 772s. Though pmCO and pmUA may be the more appropriate tag. For the aircraft with the same seating (e.g. 788/9/J and 77W) I don't see any need to distinguish them any more.

What if the sCO and sUA 772s end up with the same or very similar seatmap? Even the HD 772 has two different seatmaps (v3 and v4).

I suppose the 772s have different engines but so will A319s.

I think “United” works best for many reasons.

I agree, if only because the fleet type codes are hard to remember. Once everything is Polaris, it can just be "United"

OK, I've updated the Fleet site to reflect removal of sCO/sUA and replaced them with pmCO for a note on the fleet pages that have 3xxx fleet numbers.
On the 752 and 772 pages I show pmCO/pmUA for the different configurations of common types that have different configurations. (752, 772ER)
This page on the fleet site- https://sites.google.com/site/united...total-upgrades has more details of which PM airline the types came from.
Additionally, I just added another page/spreadsheet to the Site that outlines/tracks new deliveries. It's linked in my signature below. As with anything on the Fleet Site, I welcome improvements/suggestions.

If you tried to access the new Fleet Deliveries page from my past post and got a bad response, it's now fixed - I hadn't made the spreadsheet visible to the Public.

753:
N75853 sked to exit MIA 2752/18Dec with slimlines
N57853 sked to enter MIA 2750/18Dec for slimlines
N57862/MIA and N57870/SAT should exit soon with slimlines, then the last non-slimlines should enter mod - N57852 and N74856

763:
N655UA sked to exit MCO 2745/18Dec
N673UA exited LCQ 2742/18Dec
