United has reconfigured its 757-300 planes to increase density, primarily by adding non E+ seats (1 fewer E+ seats, 22 more E seats).

New Configuration
Boeing 757-300 (753)
24F 54E+ 156E

Post 165 assesses Seats 7DE (and 8ABC) (summary - watch out)
The armrest between 23 B/C and D/E is movable.
The inboard armrest on 23A & F is fixed and contains the tray table.

They could at least have put lie-flats in F.

Very disappointing, but hardly surprising. Tougher upgrade odds now, too.

Since 20 is not divisible by 3, there must be some rows coming with fewer than 3 across seating in this Y enhancement.

This isn't exactly news--JOSECONLSCREW28 told us in August that the 753 was getting slimline seats, then noted a month later that the E+ total would shrink only slightly.

This will also bring the new F seats, right?

You mean the ones that have been introduced in the Airbus fleet? I've never seen one in UA's Boeings . Perhaps they're not certified for installation in 737s and 757s?

213 + 21 = 234

So 3-seat blocks likely.

What's crazy is that this is 3.5 rows of seats! They are definitely going to need to slimline the lavs, too. (I hate those more than the slimeline seats!)

Why? United asks American to slim down!

There are a few 2 seat blocks near exits.

I find the additional seats/pax while keeping overhead space the same the most challenging part of these moves.

Yes.

The new seats are going in the reconfigured 737-700s, and I expect them to replace the Koito seats on the older 737-800s eventually, as some of those F seats are approaching their 20th birthdays.

Right... at least DL went for pivot bins on its 753 mods. I have no expectation that UA will do the same, despite a roughly 70% load factor in the current configuration bulking out the 753 overheads.

With 21 in the fleet, it’s certainly a move that would provide UA with capacity to do something market-leading in the TCON market. Won’t happen, of course...

Wow..I rode a 753 DEN-ORD last month and was pleasantly surprised by the CO seats. Alas, now going away.

The slimline seats are ridiculous, those who "don't mind" them because of "short flights" have consumed a very large amount of koolaid. Daze

I don't think 21 frames would be enough to support the current LAX-EWR-SFO-BOS premium transcon network.

I was thinking more along the lines of something like making DCA-SFO full-time lie-flat and adding other TCON routes (EWR-SEA, IAD-SFO, etc.), i.e. expanding the service to other destinations, not replacing the current mix of HD 772, sCO and sUA 752s.
