United has reconfigured its 757-300 planes to increase density, primarily by adding non E+ seats (1 fewer E+ seats, 22 more E seats).

New Configuration
Boeing 757-300 (753)
24F 54E+ 156E

Post 165 assesses Seats 7DE (and 8ABC) (summary - watch out)
The armrest between 23 B/C and D/E is movable.
The inboard armrest on 23A & F is fixed and contains the tray table.

There is no 7D in the old configuration.

It is best to check seat map at 72, 48 and 24 hour mark. Usually correct seat map will be loaded by then. If you do not see row 20, then you know it is a temporary place holder.
Well...looking at a seat map once the a/c is assigned isn't a guarantee; swaps happen. I think I'll keep my 21A, even though the seat map just got updated from the placeholder to the new HD config. Don't feel good enough about 753 reliability to rely on having #3860 still assigned to my Monday flight. I flew in 8F before and liked it a lot - plenty of legroom, quick to deplane, and there wasn't anyone in 8E so I got to use the space under 7E for my bag - but if they swap to the old config, 8F isn't anywhere as good as 21A.

Economy Plus Boeing 753 SFO-HNL

I am booked on a United 753 from SFO to HNL and considering selecting a seat in Economy Plus.

However when comparing the seat plan on United to Seatguru the plan on United shows the plus section from row 9 while on seatguru it starts ar 7.
Do United operate alternate seat plans for the 753 and any suggestions on seats to avoid (eg bulkhead ?)

Yes there are two 753 configurations and UA uses in 'interim' seatmap until a few days before departure

And UA is capable, within about 72 hours, of assigning a 753 (and configuration) and then swap configurations 2 more times before day of flight. Experienced this on Wednesday's OGG-SFO flight. Worthwhile watching your seat assignment once probable configuration is assigned. There's pretty wild swings in desirability of some seats based on configuration.

Same thing happened to my ORD-LAS last Monday. Row 21 seems to be the only "safe" seats to choose in advance.

ORD #592 on 9/11: UA swapped slimline for std aircraft just now, ~16 hrs out.
E+ seats vanished. Didn't expect <24h swap but these things do happen...

Over Water WiFi?

I'm on the new configuration HNL-SFO. Did they upgrade the wifi so it works overwater?

UA states non-DirecTV 753's have the Panasonic Ku system with global coverage. 753's with DirecTV are CONUS.

You can cross check the tail number in the UA Fleet Site

Note N75854 appears to a Ka equipped aircraft with no DirecTV and only CONUS

Thanks!

Appears I'm on the only one in the fleet with PDE and no DirecTV, but Ka band internet

As the direct-TV units get the slimline seats, the dTV is being removed, but the Wifi system is not changing, so there will be 9 of these birds soon enough

Seems a bit cheap of UA given these are regularly used on HNL flights.

West Coast to HNL. DTV doesn't work over the Pacific anyway, so it was mostly useless on those flights - only 4 or 5 pre-recorded movies would be available.

Now, the cheap move is removing seatback entertainment from the coach section of domestic 772 configurations - those are used on 8+ hr flights from ORD and DEN to HNL!
