Several new domestic UX routes (from LAX, ORD, DEN)

UA loaded several new routes that are now bookable for service in 2018.

LAX - MFR - Medford, OR
LAX - MSO (Seasonal) - Missoula, MT
LAX - RDM - Redmond, OR
LAX - FCA (Seasonal) - Kalispell, MT
ORD - ELP - El Paso, TX
ORD - FAT - Fresno, CA
EWR - ELM - Elmira, NY
DEN - BFF (EAS) - Scottsbluff, NE
DEN - LBL (EAS) - Liberal, KS
DEN - LBF (EAS) - North Platte, NE
DEN - JAX - Jacksonville, FL

There will be a few more EAS markets added in the coming weeks / months.

Are any of these new routes mainline? Or is this a UX expansion?

EWR-ELM is interesting - I thought UA had been cutting back a number of EWR-upstate NY routes in the recent past.

Nice to see LAX getting some routes as well, but again - really puzzling why they don't add back an obvious hole like LAX-PDX.

What's obvious to one person is not obvious to another.

Even FAT-ORD is UAX - 4 hours and 41 minutes on an E175. Ouch!

I'd take that over the same amount of time on a 737 any day.

Strange to see Fresno getting some love. I wish we still had MRY-DEN.
Not sure the timings but I'll let one of my close friends know about LAX-MSO, they have a large family and ranch outside of the city. I'm sure they would rather do MRY-LAX-MSO than driving to SFO/SJC.

Yeah that one is interesting. They dropped ELM (from ORD) just last year.

The E175 is a great bird. Every bit as comfortable as a 737, if not more so.

Totally agree with you. E175 is more comfortable than 737. E175 it has 12 first class seats, only 4 less first class seats than a 737 and 4 more than an airbus 319.

Looks like there are 15 flights a day LAX-PDX - so in terms of the total market for consumers it's more well served than a lot of other routes.

The Kirby strategy seems to be

1) 'give people who don't have many choices more choices' - trying to be the most convenient carrier for some of the smaller cities and have a shot at being dominant market share for each of those cities like MFR, FAT
2) if you're going to fill a well served market, try to make it a competitor's hub where you're milking their big margin.

Is it right? Don't have the numbers to say.

I thank him for adding ORD-CMI (Champaign, IL) because my son is at UIUC. This small airport (belongs to University of Illinois) was only served by his former airline.
